Description: This estate, started by Giacomo Voerzio in the 1950's, has been run by his son Roberto since the 1980's and has done exceedingly well under this new regime. Considered by many to be the leading producer of the region, Roberto Voerzio is an outspoken modernist and is understandably, unabashedly proud of his own estate and techniques. Voerzio's highly concentrated wines are the result of the very low yields he enforces in the vineyard, leaving 8 buds per vine. If the summer is exceptional, it is left as is and yields little more than 1 bottle per vine, approximately 2 tons per acre. If the weather is rainy and cool in late August or early September, production is reduced. Cerequio, located 820 ft. above sea level, with South exposure and a calcareous and clay soil composition. Made from 100% Nebbiolo the first vintage was bottled in 1987 and 4,000 bottles are produced annually. Aged in new and old barriques the wine is aged 20-25 months followed by an additional 2-3 years in bottle prior to release from the winery. A deep ruby-red colour wine with an aromatic nose of dried rose and truffle. The Nebbiolo exhibits flavors of ripe cherries and roses that explode with a complex and persistent roundness. This Voerzio has an extremely long finish, with granular tannins this is a wine to be savoured. (12 x 75 cl)

Michele Chiarlo CEREQUIO Barolo DOCG
Description: In 1956, Michele Chiarlo began his career as a producer with a small cellar in Calamandrana, starting off with 5 hectares of his father's company's vineyards, planted with Barbera and Muscat grapes. Today, the 50 hectare estate is spread throughout some of the regions best wine producing areas of Barolo, Gavi and Asti. This wine comes from a 6 hectare vineyard in Cerequio is to be found on a splendid, south-facing amphitheatre hill between the communes of La Morra and Barolo. The exceptional composition of the soil together with a particularly mild climate make Cerequio one of most prestigious crus throughout the entire Barolo production area. The vineyard is skilfully managed and prepared with much care taken between the vineyard and the winery. Here the wines spend 2 years in oak barrels. A strong red coloured wine with predominant balsamic sensations, of mint, fruit jams while its taste matches the bouquet. The structure is rich, ample and of great character, with a notable presence of delicate tannins. It is surprising the delicacy with which it caresses the palate before the enjoyable finish. Roberto Voerzio SARMASSA Barolo Riserva DOCG Piemonte
The Sarmassa vineyard is located just below Cerequio. Whereas Cerequio is within the commune of La Morra, Sarmassa is just over the boundary and lies within the commune of Barolo. The vineyard was planted in 1985. Being one of the older vineyards worked by Roberto Voerzio, the density is slightly looser at 4,942 vines per acre. The Nebbiolo grapes were harvested in late September-early October. The grapes were crushed and the must macerated in contact with the skins for 10 days. The wine was aged in Allier barriques for 26 months followed by an additional 12 months in bottle. The 2000 vintage Sarmassa is a powerful wine that with great aromas and flavors of spicy and red fruit with a hint of oak. The tannins are firm and well integrated with a long finish. Available in Magnum Bottles.
