Rothbury Estate BROCKENBACK Shiraz Hunter Valley New South Wales
Description: The Rothbury Estate Brokenback range constitutes the pinnacle of winemaking at one of the Hunter Valley’s most famous wineries. The fruit for each of the wines is sourced from vineyards at the foot of the famous Brokenback ranges to the west of Pokolbin, in New South Wales. The Brokenback Shiraz is a classic example of one of Australia’s great red wine styles – Lower Hunter Shiraz. The Brokenback Shiraz presents as a medium red/purple colour in the glass. The nose offers lifted berry fruit with balanced American oak and a hint of classic Hunter Valley earthiness. On the palate the rich, ripe varietal Shiraz flavours of sweet berry, chocolate and spicy oak, tight grained tannins combine to deliver a soft and velvety mouthfeel with good length. Cellaring: 3 to 6 years Viticulture: The fruit for the Brokenback Shiraz comes from the loamy volcanic soils at the foot of the Brokenback ranges in the Lower Hunter Valley. Vinification: After de-stemming and crushing, the must was transferred to stainless steel tanks where it began fermentation. Traditional cap management techniques were employed such as plunging and pumping over. The wine was pressed and transferred into oak barrels where it completed fermentation. It received 12 months maturation in American and French oak barrels. (6 x 75 cl)

Lisa McGuigan Tempus Two PEWTER LABEL Merlot Hunter Valley
Description: Dense Purple Nose Typical Merlot varietal character showing perfumed cherry and tomato bush. Some toffee cinnamon charred oak give additional complexity. Palate A soft full bodied wine with fine grained tannins, fleshy fruit and good persistence. General The vintage in the Hunter Valley is characterised by cool conditions and persistent rain through out the growing season. In early January extremely hot weather stalled the ripening of fruit and it was necessary to slightly dehydrate the fruit on the vine to attain optimum balance. The grapes were machines harvested at night with the fruit being chilled down to 8 degrees into a conventional stainless steel fermentation vessel. The crushed grapes were cold soaked for approximately 5 days when the onset of wild fermentation occurred, at which point a low level of yeast was also added. On completion of fermentation the grapes were pressed via a large Diemme airbag press into another vessel where the wine was allowed to complete both primary and secondary fermentation. The wine was clarified with some going to barrel for maturation and a portion being held in stainless steel. Prior to bottling the wine received a mild fining with egg whites (6 x 75 cl)

Margan Shiraz SAIGNEE Hunter Valley New South Wales Australia
Description: TASTING NOTES : Light red in colour with a full soft nose. The characters of the wine are a combination of spicy pepper from the shiraz and lifted strawberry aromatics from the process. The palate is soft and full with crisp clean acid. It is a dry style of rose which is not a reflection of the presence of red grape tannins, rather the lack of residual sugar. The wine has been made to drink as a young wine and should be consumed nicely chilled. An ideal accompaniment to salads, pasta or barbeques. WINEMAKERS NOTES : The grapes for this wine were selected from three separate vineyard sites. The fruit was all picked at optimum ripeness and fermented separately. Each parcel of fruit was selected for the final blend as a result of its individual fruit characters. The Fordwich Hill portion was fermented in new French oak and left on its own lees for two months. This portion was given a further four months in barrel. The balance was fermented without oak. The wine was blended using the various proportions of the individual parcels to provide a wine with a multi-layered palate of intense primary fruit characters enhanced by the soft French oak characters. Minimal filtration was used on the wine prior to bottling (12 x 75 cl)

Brokenwood CRICKET PITCH White Hunter Valley
Description: Cricket Pitch is bright pale yellow in colour, with green tints and aromas of citrus with herbaceous green pea edge. Sauvignon Blanc from the cooler areas provides the powerful fruit backbone with Semillon giving a structure of richness to the palate. Some barrel ferment character adds subtle complexity and further dimension to the palate. A fine natural acid structure provides length and liveliness to the finish. In 1978, Brokenwood sourced fruit from outside the Hunter Valley for the first time. The practice of multi-district blending is now a major part of the company philosophy, with parcels of fruit sourced from ten of Australia's premier wine regions. This allows Brokenwood's blended wines to maintain a consistently high standard, and enables the winemakers to make the most of distinctive regional characteristics. Again this wine will be bottled under the Stelvin closure, so that it can be enjoyed free from cork taint and in perfect condition. (6 x 75 cl)

Hunter's Chardonnay Marlborough NZ
Description: In the last 20 years the province of Marlborough has moved from virtual obscurity to become New Zealand's largest and best-known wine region with a reputation for producing some of the world's finest sauvignon blanc. This huge potential was something that was recognised back in 1983 by Jane Hunter and her late husband Ernie when they founded their first fledgling winery in the picturesque Wairau Valley. Since those early years Jane has been owner, viticulturist and managing director of what has become one of New Zealand's most established wineries, Hunter's Wines. Under her expertise, the original vineyard area has increased by 2.5 times its original size and the company's annual output has grown to around 60,000 cases of wine, nearly half of which is exported. This Chardonnay is showing ripe peach and apricot on the nose with some grapefruit and toasty oak. Full-bodied with a round creamy palate and plenty of peach and grapefruit flavours married with the vanillan french oak. The rich creamy yeast characters of the part barrel ferment wine are balanced by the oak treatment and carry on to a lingering finish. (12 x 75 cl)
