Description:
Cricket Pitch is bright pale yellow in colour, with green tints and aromas of citrus with herbaceous green pea edge. Sauvignon Blanc from the cooler areas provides the powerful fruit backbone with Semillon giving a structure of richness to the palate. Some barrel ferment character adds subtle complexity and further dimension to the palate. A fine natural acid structure provides length and liveliness to the finish. In 1978, Brokenwood sourced fruit from outside the Hunter Valley for the first time. The practice of multi-district blending is now a major part of the company philosophy, with parcels of fruit sourced from ten of Australia's premier wine regions. This allows Brokenwood's blended wines to maintain a consistently high standard, and enables the winemakers to make the most of distinctive regional characteristics. Again this wine will be bottled under the Stelvin closure, so that it can be enjoyed free from cork taint and in perfect condition. (12 x 75 cl)

Brokenwood CRICKETPITCH Red South Eastern Australia
Description: The CricketPitch ‘CP’ Cabernet, Merlot and Shiraz is a typical ‘South Eastern Australian’ blend of 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, and 25% Shiraz , sourced from premium vineyards in McLaren Vale and Padthaway in South Australia, as well as Beechworth in Victoria. Although a drought year across most of Australia’s regions, careful handling has ensured that the ‘CP’ Cabernet-Merlot-Shiraz displays the savoury characters and easy drinking style that are the hallmarks of the wine. Matured mostly in one to three year old American and French oak barrels for up to 18 months, the ‘CP’ Red is accessible on the palate, and has balance, length, and subtle oak flavours that support the fruit. The pristine character of the varieties shines through in the glass, from the slightly cedary notes of the Cabernet Sauvignon through to the soft, fruity richness of the Shiraz. Jim Barry SILLY MID ON Sauvignon Blanc Semillon South Australia
Description: Situated in the cool uplands of the North Mount Lofty ranges about 50 km north of Adelaide, the vineyards of Jim Barry were established in Clare in 1959. This is a family run winery committed to producing quality wines through an innovative approach to viticulture and winemaking technology. Those who know cricket will be aware of the fielding position called ‘Silly Mid On’. Close to the batsman, requiring very good reflexes and always at risk of being struck by the ball off the bat, this wine is a reflection of this. This release of ‘Silly Mid On’ Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon is a blend of three components; Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc , Clare Valley Sauvignon Blanc and Clare Valley Semillon . The premium Clare fruit was sourced from the Jim Barry vineyards and the Adelaide Hills fruit was courtesy of friends in the Adelaide Hills. This wine is a brilliant pale straw in colour, with enticing aromas of cut grass, lychees and Chinese fruits. The flavours are zesty and refreshing, full of tropical fruit, with hints of lime, citrus and lychees. The palate shows excellent length and a crisp finish. (6 x 75 cl) Price: £65.55

Arlewood Estate Semillon Sauvignon Blanc Margaret River Australia
Description: Arlewood Estate was established in 1988 in the Willyabrup Valley of the Margaret River wine region in Western Australia. The Gosatti family in partnership planted a small vineyard near Cowaramup in 1995, and acquired Arlewood Estate in 1999. In October 2005, The Gosatti Family completed an outright purchase of Arlewood to pursue the vision that is starting to crystalise with the release of some wines worthy of their situation. The total area under vine is 15 hectares and the plantings include 17 year old Cabernet Sauvignon and Semillon vines; 11 year old Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Shiraz and Cabernet Franc; 10 year old Chardonnay, along with newer plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Merlot. This wine is a blend of 60% Sauvignon Blanc and 40% Semillon and all the fruit was sourced from Arlewood Estate vineyard; Willyabrup, Margaret River Appellation. Once in the winery the Sauvignon Blanc was tank fermented, while the Semillon component matured in new French oak barriques for 2 months. Made by Mark Messenger to the Arlewood his aim was to produce a style which delivers all the bright fruit and cleansing freshness that Margaret River is known for, with the added dimension that a barrel fermented portion of the blend delivers. The palate is bright and clear while the lean body and mouthfeel reveal cleansing acidity. Flavours of grapefruit and lime combine with savoury spice through to the enjoyable finish.
