This wine is bright, deep purple in colour, with a forward, open nose. It has perfumes of raspberries and strawberries which are characteristic of good Gamay. A good depth of flavour on the palate, with enough structure to balance the wealth of ripe, cherryish fruit. Chateau de Pierreux, a 190-acre estate situated in the heart of Brouilly with a magnificent chateau winery built during the Renaissance, is one of the finest domains in the Beaujolais region. It has been controlled and vinified by Jean-Claude Boisset since the 2002 vintage. The 76 hectares of vineyard are planted on highly absorbent sandy soil, consisting of pink granite sprinkled with blue volcanic rocks. The 40-45 year old vines are planted at a density of around 10,000 vines per hectare and are gobelet, or bush trained. (6 x 75 cl)

Jean-Claude Boisset Chateau Pierreux Brouilly AC
Description: The nose shows blackcurrant, redcurrant, blueberry and other small red fruits, while the mouth has sweet tannins and is rich in floral flavours including iris and violets. There is a good balance between a lovely freshness of fruit and velvety of tannins. Jean-Claude Boisset Chateaux de Pierreux RESERVE du CHATEAUX Brouilly Description: Made from Gamay fruit this is a deep, dark garnet in colour with violet highlights, intriguing brilliance and beautiful lustre. The nose is slightly woody, with vanilla and cinnamon notes developing into a more floral register, including violet and iris, that is a great reflection of the terroir. On the palate the wine is suave in the mouth, with a fine fruit-wood balance and aromas of dark-coloured berries such as blueberry. The finely toasted oak is remarkably well-integrated and steers the finish towards subtle notes of spice. The Reserve de Chateau, a selection of the Estate's oldest vines and best vineyard is aged in used barrels for about 8 months prior to bottling. It is altogether a more serious wine, illustrating the heights that the Gamay grape can scale, given proper care and attention. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £163.20
