The palate is rich and ripe, with fine tannins and a powerful finish. Will improve over the next two or three years, but presently a soft, seductive Shiraz style with lots of current drinking appeal. Craggy Range BLOCK 14 Syrah Gimblett Gravels Hawke's Bay NZ
Description: WINE NOTES Our Syrah is hand picked and hand sorted on a gentle sorting table. It is then destemmed without any Sulfur Dioxide and without a must pump, directly into open-top fermenters. Lengthy cold soaks on each batch are followed by an un-innoculated, cool fermentation. Extraction is carefully managed with delicate punchdown of the skins to avoid breaking the skins. Extended macerations are carried on for as long as possible, resulting in 20 to 30 day cuvaison. 100% French oak is used for elevage, with 35% of it new. Malolactic Fermentation is in barrel, and takes place the following Spring. The wine was bottled in December , unfined and unfiltered, as nature intended it. (12 x 75 cl)
