Irancy is a very picturesque ancient wine growing village nestling at the bottom of a valley that opens out onto the right bank of the Yonne River 15 kilometres from Auxerre. The vines are mainly planted on marl slopes overlooking the Cotes des Bars, and there is a considerable amount of limestone soil. Irancy, generally, is a brilliant ruby-red hued wine with a robust flavour, usually when the Pinot Noir has been blended with the local variety, the Cesar. The Cuvee Emeline sees some wood and displays headier scents of black-skinned fruit with a hint of spice and leather. The wines may appear austere in youth, but they grow elegant and spirited after a few years' ageing or with a stint in a decanter. (6 x 75 cl)
