Villa Cafaggio Chianti Classico DOCG Tuscany
Description: Were the many sub-zones of Chianti Classico to drawn up in the French style classification, Panzano would be first in line for the Grand Cru category. Villa Cafaggio own 30ha of vineyard in the prime site of Panzano, the Conca D'Oro, where a combination of soil type, altitude and aspect, offer perfect growing conditions for the Sangiovese. Their status as one of Chiantis Blue Ribband estates and the rising star of the region rests largely with the dynamic winemaker Stefano Farkas' talent for clonal selection, replanting substantial portion of the vineyard with the fine Sangiovese clones while planting some carefully selected Cabernet Sauvignon along the way. Consultant Stefano Chiccioli has also brought innovations in the winery using micro-oxygenation during fermentation giving a round depth of fruit to balance the austerity typical of sangiovesie. Their wines have garnered such rave reviews in recent years that they are on strict allocation. A lovely, rich colour. There is an enticing character on the nose, which has high-toned notes, black fruits and black olive aromas. The palate is just lovely, medium-bodied, but with a full, rounded texture. There is a great combination of soft black fruits, deliciously chewy tannins and strong acidity. There's a sweet edge to the fruit, but overall this is structured and balanced. Livon VILLA CHIOPRIS Cabernet Sauvignon Friuli Grave DOC
Description: In 1964 Dorino Livon purchased the first piece of property in the hills of Collio and step by step added new parcels to his portfolio. In this way, the Azienda Agricola Livon slowly but steadily continues to grow and continuing this trend Villa Chiopris was purchased in 1992. This seventy-hectare property lies between the towns of Chiopris and Viscone in a large plain, rich in iron and alluvial soils, that extends from the edge of the Veneto region in the west and the Colli Orientali del Friuli region in the east with the Moreniche hills to the North. The grapes are hand harvested from vineyards located in Chiopris followed by fermentation at controlled temperatures and an 8-month period in stainless steel tanks. This has produced a brilliant ruby red coloured wine. Intense, clean and pleasing aromas with hints of black cherry, strawberry and vanilla give way to a balanced, well-weighted and intense palate. The good tannin structure of this enjoyable wine gives way to a plum, raspberry and black cherry finish. (6 x 75 cl) Price: £55.70
