A Mano PRIMA MANO Primitivo di Puglia
Description: It has supple tannins, a touch of cedariness and combines power and elegance in a most striking manner. A Mano Primitivo was first made in 1998. Mark Shannon and Elvezia Sbalchiero, the duo behind A Mano, have worked in the wine business for most of their lives. Elvezia is a northern Italian winemarketing expert and Mark is a Californian winemaker. They knew right from the start that they wanted their wine to be a concentrated, dark coloured, full-bodied wine made from Primitivo. A Mano comes from the heart of the Primitivo area, in the low hills east of Taranto in Puglia. The region is an old sea-bed, full of fossilised clams, oysters and sea-urchins. The altitude here is approximately 30-60 metres above sea level and annual rainfall is 35 cms. Puglia is a pensinsula between the Adriatic and Ionian seas so the climate is classically Mediterranean. The Primitivo vines are quite old; most are the original plantings after phylloxera and range from 70-100 years old. As with most vineyards planted at that time they are small bush vines, called “alberello” and are non-irrigated. The average Primitivo vineyard is quite small, less than half a hectare. The grapes are hand-picked. (6 x 75 cl)

Wente BEYER RANCH Zinfandel San Fransisco Bay California
Description: This Zinfandel is bursting with the spicy aromas and flavors of raspberry and black pepper that typify this quintessential Californian varietal. With a full tannic backbone, this full-bodied Zinfandel is best paired with grilled meats, spicy pasta sauces and a wide array of fruits and cheeses. Vineyard: Livermore Valley's warm days and cool nights are excellent for growing high-quality Zinfandel. This wine comes from four vineyards throughout the valley, each with its own mesooclimate. Fermentation: Each vineyard was harvested separately and fermented in upright fermenters. Rack and return was performed twice daily. Rack and return is the process of draining all of the free-run juice off of the cap, then pumping the free-run juice back over the top of the fermenter. This method increases color and tannin extraction and improving mouthfeel through the integration of oxygen. Aging: Each blend was aged separately, with part in neutral French and American oak barrels and part in stainless steel. (12 x 75 cl)

Sula Vineyards Reserve Shiraz India
Description: Since the launch in 2000, Sula Vineyards have quickly gained the reputation of being India’s leading producer of premium New World-style wines. Grown on the hills of the Dindori estate and aged for a year in new oak, this Reserve Shiraz is fragrant, elegant and smooth with lush berry flavours and silky tannins. Situated 180 km northeast of Mumbai, Nashik is India’s largest grape-growing region, but had traditionally never been used to grow wine grapes. Wondering why, an enterprising, Stanford-trained engineer named Rajeev Samant quit his hi-tech Silicon Valley job in 1993 to do some investigating. A little research quickly showed that the Nashik climate was not only perfect for wine grapes, but was also on par with winegrowing regions in Spain, California, and Australia. His determination doubled, Rajeev returned to California in search of a winemaker. In Sonoma County he found Kerry Damskey, an eminent Californian winemaker, who enthusiastically agreed to help start a winery on Rajeev’s 30 acre family estate and so the story began. (12 x 75 cl)
