Based on nearly twenty years of growing grapes and making wine, Sherwood Estate now specialise in Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling. Sherwood Estate produce three ranges of wines the Clearwater Range, the Sherwood Estate Range and the the Stratum Range. The Sherwood range proudly carries the name of the winery and reflects Sherwood Estate's commitment to the highest quality. The wines are varietally focussed and come from selected parcels in the Sherwood Estate Vinyards in Marlborough and Waipara. All the fruit was hand harvested and upon arrival at the winery, the fruit was destemmed, lightly crushed and gently tipped into open top fermenters. Yeast was added to initiate the ferment after a five day 'soak' period. Three times per day the cap was hand plunged and spent an average of 16 days 'on skins'. Next, Malolactic fermentation and oak maturation was undertaken for two months prior to blending and bottling. This deep red coloured Pinot Noir displays ripe, sweet plum notes with an edge of complexity on the nose. The nose follows onto the palate complemented by the rich and rounded style supported by fine grain tannins and smooth finish. (12 x 75 cl)

The PinotNoir grapes were selected from the Webbs Vineyard in Marlborough and the fruit was hand harvested before going into the winery. After crushing and destemming, the fruit was transferred to four tonne open top fermenters. Over the course of the fermentation the tanks were hand plunged 4-5 times daily. Following 21 days of skin contact the fruit was pressed prior to ageing for 11 months in French oak barriques. This Clearwater Vineyard PinotNoir is made in a traditionally Burgundian manner and captures the true essence of the variety. The nose displays rich, red berry fruit aromas integrated with careful oak handling, while on the palate it is round and full with lovely texture, silky tannin structure, opulent mouthfeel and length showing savoury on the finish. Following an extended three month period of yeast lees contact the various parcels of Sauvignon Blanc were blended together, lightly fined and filtered prior to bottling. The Clearwater Riesling is from selected fruit at the Whitestone and Weka Creek Vineyards in Waipara. The fruit was harvested in excellent condition and selecting only the free run juice, the Riesling was cool fermented for 21 days. After an extended yeast lees contact the wine was light fined and filtered prior to bottling. This Riesling displays both delicacy and finesse. The Stratum range is crafted by our winemaker to reflect intense varietal fruit flavours from classic varieties producing finished wines of consistently excellent quality and wide appeal. The grapes for this wine are grown in Marlborough at the Rowley Crescent vineyard and selected sites in the Awatere Valley. The fruit was harvested at night and transported to the winery. Following pressing, the juice was settled and cool fermented for 17 days. After a three month period of lees contact the different lots were blended, lightly fined and filtered prior to bottling. The Sauvignon Blanc displays abundant aromas of gooseberries and capsicum on the nose. The palate is fresh and lively showing rich concentration and a long lingering finish. The Sherwood Riesling was harvested late for optimum ripeness, next the fruit was gently crushed and pressed and settled prior to undergoing a cool fermentation. Following a light fining and filtration the wine was bottled. This wine captures the true essence of Waipara Riesling with a nose displaying floral aromas with hints of lemon and lime. The aroma follows through into the well balanced, crisp and rounded palate while the wine is showing good concentration of tangy lime fruit character offset by touches of honey while it finishes in an off-dry style.
