Description: In 1981 we planted some Chardonnay vines in a single vineyard of our estate in Treiso, replacing an old vineyard of Barbaresco. Since 1985 we produce with these Chardonnay grapes a limited quantity of barrel fermented Chardonnay called Piodilei. We wanted to keep the quantity of this wine very small and in the meantime we wish to give the chance to a wider number of consumers to enjoy our Chardonnay. In September 1993 we decided to ferment in stainless-steel tanks a part of our Chardonnay: the results was a fresh and vibrant wine with evident hints of ripe fruits. After some experiments we noted that adding to this wine a 25% of the same Chardonnay fermented and aged in new oak barrels, we reached an interesting wine spicy taste and persistent after-taste. So that we decided to create a new Chardonnay, with more pronounced fruity character but slightly lighter style. L'Altro in italian means (12 x 75 cl)

Bay of Fires ARRAS Sparkling Chardonnay Pinot Noir Tasmania
Description: Bay of Fires was born of a desire by BRL Hardy to make cool climate wines of classical structure, combining fruit intensity with refinement, complexity and persistence of flavour. Tasmania's latitude and island status was identified and with its unique climates more closely resembling the classic winegrowing regions of France this has been achieved. Arras is the flagship wine produced by Bay of Fires Winery. 100% Tasmanian, the wine aims to capture a sense of place; the true essence of Tasmania. As with the Bay of Fires range, fruit for Arras is sourced across Tasmania, taking advantage of diverse viticultural conditions and enabling the selection of only the most premium parcels from each region. The extreme cool climate of the Bay of Fires property allows maximum flavour retention through the long slow ripening season. The grapes are hand picked and pressed in close proximity to the vineyards to ensure optimum quality is maintained. Traditional sparkling wine techniques were utilised throughout to enhance the fruits natural qualities. One hundred percent of the base wine underwent malolactic fermentation and the wine was aged on yeast lees. Patience and careful handling have been rewarded with a sparkling wine of the finest calibre. Like the luxurious tapestries from which it takes its name, Arras, Australia's prestige sparkling wine, is skillfully woven together from a blend of Chardonnay 61.5% and Pinot Noir 38.5%. This sparkling wine is a medium straw colour with a gentle green/gold hue. Pristine clarity and a fine, persistent bead further enhances the aesthetics of this wine. Lifted mushroom/truffle and lanolin bouquet typical of aged cold climate Chardonnay, it is complimented by white stone-fruit aromas of Pinot Noir underpinned by yeast complexity. Elegance and persistence of flavour are the key factors to the fine, soft and complex palate. Arras finishes dry with a crisp natural acid finish. Limited Availability. (6 x 75 cl)

The winery is located in the picturesque Waipara Valley, while they have four vineyards also owned by Sherwood Estate in the famed Marlborough Region, at the top of the South Island. Based on nearly twenty years of growing grapes and making wine, Sherwood Estate now specialise in Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling. Sherwood Estate produce three ranges of wines the Clearwater Range, the Sherwood Estate Range and the the Stratum Range. This is very much a hand crafted range both in the vineyards and winery, here meticulous care is taken to ensure that the wine produced is of the highest quality and reflects each vineyard's unique characteristics or 'terroir'. The fruit was hand harvested from the West Melton vineyard and in the winery a gentle pressing was undertaken with the juice fermented and aged on lees in French oak barriques . Following a light fining and filtration the wine was bottled. Cullen Margaret River Chardonnay Margaret River Western Australia
Description: The Margaret River Chardonnay from Cullen is a bight and youthful green gold colour, with a complex nose of tropical fruit, nougat, lemon citrus and vanillin oak. The intense fruit characters, so delightfully expressed on the nose, flow through on to the palate where they are beautifully integrated with the subtle oak. There is a silky texture and the finish is refined and long. Vanya Cullen has adopted biodynamic techniques in the past few years as she feels this gives better flavours in her grapes, flavours that reflect the vineyard characteristics. The fruit was picked at perfect physiological ripeness at Baumés ranging from 12.4 to 13.7º, producing an average of just over 13º Baumé, which is relatively low for an Australian Chardonnay. 70% of the wine was fermented using wild yeasts, which contributes to the subtle mouth feel of this wine. This component was matured for just five months in new French oak to ensure that, while oak still had an influence, it remained in the background. 30% of the wine was prevented from undergoing malolactic fermentation, which facilitates the retention of both freshness and natural acidity; meaning that no acid is required to be added to achieve this wines style. This is without doubt one of Australia’s finest Chardonnays. The wine will be available sealed under stelvin so that it can be enjoyed free from cork taint and in perfect condition. (12 x 75 cl)

Jackson Wine Estates LA CREMA Chardonnay Sonoma Coast California
Description: La Crema was founded in 1979 and quickly established itself as a pioneer for intensely flavoured Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the cool Sonoma Coast. Continuing this tradition, La Crema pursues the ultimate expression of the Russian River Valley, Carneros and Anderson Valley by handcrafting wines of distinctive flavour which achieve elegance and balance The Sonoma Coast is located on the western coastal fringe of Sonoma County, starting with a narrow strip at the Mendocino County border and continuing through the mouth of the Russian River; then down to the Sonoma Carneros border of Napa. This AVA is the largest in Sonoma County yet is the least planted. Known for its dramatic flux in temperature, the warm days and cool nights allow gradual ripening of grapes with fully developed flavours, high natural acidity and low pH. The region’s cold conditions push the limits of grape growing making it particularly well suited for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The hand-picked Chardonnay grapes from cool climate vineyards located six to twenty-five miles from the cold Pacific Ocean are delivered to the winery in small half ton bins to protect the integrity of the fruit. Once in the winery the belt delivery system for whole cluster pressing is used to to capture fresh fruit flavours. A clonal selection union of Dijon, Rued, and Wente add layers of complexity and aromatics and then 90% of the fruit undergoes barrel fermentation and 85% malolactic fermentation to enhance creamy textures. Finally, the barrel aged wine is left for seven months with bi-monthly lees stirring to create richness in the mouth. Melissa Stackhouse Wine Maker commented: 'Citrus aromas, lemon peel and green apple are balanced with clove and subtle vanilla in the background. Flavours of green apple, lemon and lime, with an unctuous middle, with spice and caramel that add richness and texture to the lingering finish..' (12 x 37.5 cl)

Petaluma Chardonnay Piccadilly Valley Adelaide Hills South Australia
Description: Petaluma Chardonnay has characteristic ripe peach aromas and the texture and flavour dimension conferred by the high degree of ripeness. The mineral aroma and finish is due to the old geology and soils of the Piccadilly Valley. The hand harvested small bunches of Chardonnay from Petaluma's six distinguished site vineyards in the Piccadilly Valley were crushed and chilled to press, immediately upon arrival in the winery. The heart run juice was separated by gravity and gentle pressing and allowed to settle to clarity by the action of gravity in cooled, insulated tanks. The clear juice was racked to new medium toast Vosges barriques for prolonged fermentation with Petaluma's own yeast strains. Following primary fermentation, the malolactic fermentation by Petaluma's own bacteria strains was allowed to go to completion in barriques. For the next four months the wine was stirred on lees in barrique on a weekly basis (6 x 75 cl)

Louis Latour GRAND ARDECHE Chardonnay Vin de Pays des Coteaux de l'Ardeche Blanc
Description: Consistency of climate and abundant sunshine in the Ardeche perfectly ripen these bunches of grapes, whilst the drying Mistral wind eliminates any risk of rot. The Grand Ardeche is treated as if it were grown in one of the Grand Cru vineyards of the Cote d'Or. Fully-ripened grapes are selected and pressed lightly before being aged in oak barrels made at the Latour cooperage in Beaune. The result is a full-bodied wine that is smooth with notes reminiscent of exotic fruits and vanilla spice imparted by the oak. Soil: Clay and chalk. Vinification: Traditional oak barrel ageing with 100% malolactic fermentation. Grand Ardeche 1998 tasted April 11th 2000: The rich lemon gold hue invites you to sniff the ripe open nose of fresh tropical and citrus fruit aromas with integrated smoky vanilla oak flavours. In the mouth, a warm creamy texture coats the mouth with layers of ripe fruit balanced by freshness and a long smooth finish. World Champion Sommelier 1995, Mr Tasaki Shinya strongly recommends Louis Latour's Grand Ardeche: 'The colour is pure lemon gold, with a warm viscous appearance. The nose is peachy with intense honeyed fruits and a toasty nutty oak complexity. On the palate it is rich and fruity with balanced acidity and a long fresh finish.' The Wine Magazine, April 1999 tasted the Grand Ardeche 1996: 87 points. 'Another wine from Louis Latour, from an equally classic Burgundian grape, Chardonnay. Nice soft fruity apple flavours. A pleasantly floral nose while the palate is almost sweet with a soft texture'. The Wine Enthusiast November 15, 1998 tasting Grand Ardeche 1996: 'Bright pale golden cast. Moderately full-bodied. Full acidity. Highly extracted. Moderately oaked. Vanilla, smoke, yeast. Quite aromatic, with a toasty oak accent and yeasty flavours throughout. Full and rich, yet crisp through the finish. 87 points'. Decanter October 1997 tasting Grand Ardeche 1995 recommended 'Vegetal, complex, voluptuous, honeyed and ripe on the nose. Rich, ripe and vegetal again on the palate with a little vanilla of new oak and backing acidity.' The famous French Guide Hachette reviews the Grand Ardeche 1996: 'Consistency and excellence. These two words define the quality of Chardonnay wine produced by Louis Latour in the Ardeche since the 1980's. Vinified and aged in oak barrels, this wine is a complex mixture of scented flowers, spice and even balsamic fragrances. Full and fruity in the mouth, this Coteaux de l'Ardeche is destined for great occasions.' (12 x 75 cl)
