d'Arenberg THE IRONSTONE PRESSINGS Grenache/Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia
Description: In its youth, d'Arenberg's Ironstone Pressings has a deep, dark, plum purple colour matched by just as intense black cherry, dark chocolate, liquorice, tobacco, mixed spice and brooding ripe blackberry aromas. Mulberry, ripe plum and fresh pepper spice dominate the rich full-bodied palate before a long, intense, rolling, dark bitter cherry tannin finish. After quite some time in bottle the intense colour, fruit aromas and dusty, gripping tannins tone down, the colour moving towards brown ruby red. Eventually the Grenache and Shiraz blossom as rich, sweet, violet like scents, with spicy, cedary and tobacco based aromas before malty sweet dark chocolate flavours and crunchy, chewy textured black olive, spicy ginger and long fleshy textures. The hallmark of vigorous, fine piquant tannin and acidity continue to reside with The Ironstone Pressings after quite some considerable time, as have previous vintages since the late 1950's. (6 x 75 cl)

Laroche ROSE de la CHEVALIERE Syrah Grenache Merlot Vin de Pays d'Oc
Description: Tasting Note A gentle, dry rose with subtle raspberry and cherry aromas. The palate is bright and fresh with the fruit balanced perfectly by the crisp acidity in the finish. An impressive, restrained wine with real character. 12% Slightly darker than the pale barely-there rosés from Provencal but lighter on its feet than most New World pinks, Laroche's Rose de la Chevaliere is on superb form in 2006. A blend of Merlot, Grenache and Syrah sourced from across the Languedoc it is just waiting for winter to admit it has lost its bite and usher in really warm weather. In the meantime, it makes a fantastic partner for everything from charcuterie to seafood. A bit about Laroche Chablis producer Laroche have been champions of the South of France for over a decade, since they acquired Mas de Chevalier, near Beziers in 1995. Top winemaker Richard Lavanoux is now the in charge of the cellars and is really beginning to realise the region's potential for making great wines. Richard's focus is on producing modern, terroir-driven wines bottled under screwcap for maximum freshness and longevity. (12 x 75 cl)
