ChateauGiscours 3eme Cru Classe Margaux Description: Situated amidst 300 hectares of meadows and forests, the vineyards cover more than 80 hectares. They are divided into two separate sections and 43 distinct parcels. The grape varieties are perfectly adapted to each plot. The varieties at Giscours are the same as at the finest Médoc châteaux. Cabernet Sauvignon predominates and Merlot accounts for 32%. This combination is rounded out by Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot grapes, totalling 17%. Hand-picking is one of the ways that Château Giscours ensures that only high-quality grapes are crushed and pressed. The grapes are handled very gently and as little as possible. In addition, they are sorted by hand in the cellar and only those considered worthy of our grand vin are used. Château Giscours is one of the first wine estates to use a computer to manage all aspects of winemaking, from viticulture to ageing wine in the cellar. Information about the vines, down to the smallest parcel, is stored in the master computer. Everything done in the vineyards and cellar is registered and saved for future reference. This makes it possible to have in-depth knowledge about all aspects of the estate in order to create a great wine. At Château Giscours, wine is aged in oak barrels from the finest cooperages. In the long term, this develops a perfect balance between oak and wine. At Château Giscours, wine is aged approximately 16-18 months, in oak barrels from the finest cooperages. In the long term, this develops a perfect balance between oak and wine. The wine has plenty of ripe fruit flavours of raspberry with plum hints. The is a full bodied wine with thick juicy tannins and a finnish of berries and oak. Limited Availability.

ChateauGiscours 3eme Cru Classe Margaux Description: This vineyard is located on a beautiful 300 hectare estate. It was documented in 1330 but it was not until 1847 that Count de Pescatore laid the cornerstone of the exquisite chateau overlooking the vines. Giscours' quality was confirmed by its inclusion as a third growth in the 1855 classification. The estate was purchased by Nicolas Tari after World War II and he made major investments in modernising Giscours. In 1995, Eric Albada Jelgersma acquired the right to grow vines and make wine on the estate. ChateauMargaux PAVILLON ROUGE de CHATEAUMARGAUXMargaux Description: ChateauMargaux may trace its origins back as far as the 12th Century when there was no sign of any viticulture. It was owned by French nobility, and was known as La Mothe de Margaux meaning a small rise in the land. It was not until the Lestonnac family took possession of the estate that it began to resemble the modern day ChateauMargaux. In the ten years that followed 1572, Pierre Lestonnac, in anticipation of a change from arable agriculture to viticulture on the Medoc, made dramatic changes to the estate. By the beginning of the 18th Century ChateauMargaux comprised 265 ha, of which one third was devoted to viticulture. Today the estate has changed very little in size or layout. The wines are fermented in oak vats, and the reds see up to two years maturation in oak, in general, though, Pavillon Rouge is bottled three to four months earlier than ChateauMargaux. The second wine Pavillon Rouge du ChateauMargaux has a production of about 16500 cases per year. The degree of selection is constantly going up for the first wine, which diverts a lot of very good wine in the direction of Pavillon Rouge. The selection of a third wine, begun in 1997, was continued in 1998. It has now become a systematic reflex. This operation, which demonstrates ChateauMargaux's growing concern for rigour, as much for the second wine as for the first.. This selection policy enabled the Pavillon Rouge 1998 to be of astonishing concentration and undoubtedly one of the most powerful to date. The Pavillon Rouge 1998 possesses all the qualities of its vintage, intense fruit, a great length on the palate and of course great potential for improving with age.. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £674.24

The second wine Pavillon Rouge du ChateauMargaux has a production of about 16500 cases per year. The growing season was very wet in 2001, and as a result the flowering of the vines went quick and evenly. During the entire summer, there were unusually alternate periods of hot and cold, dry and wet weather, which encouraged vegetation growth and slowed ripening. The havest was delayed to 1st October when the grapes are manually harvested and sorted. This wine has developed early and it is considered that the growing season has been responsible as the grapes were picked at the perfeect ripeness. In general, though, Pavillon Rouge is bottled three to four months earlier than ChateauMargaux and this wine has a remarkable length of palate with an overall firm but soft impression, confiming it as a very fine vintage. Similar to the 1999, it has great aromatic finesse and its tannic texture is tender and harmonious. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £1005.37
