Chateau Larrivet Haut Brion is located 15 kilometres from the centre of Bordeaux in the heart of the Pessac Léognan appellation. Thanks to its acquisition by the Andros group in 1987, the estate has finally come into its own again. Following consolidation, the area under vine is now the same as at the end of the 19th century. In light of the special nature of the soil, manager Philippe Gervoson does everything in his power to adapt his wine growing to the terroir, using the methods applied by the region’s great estates. In 1996 Philippe decided to take another step towards greater quality by employing well known oenologist Michel Rolland. The grapes are hand picked as late as possible for maximum ripeness and carefully sorted before crushing. Winemaking is carried out over eighteen months, 3 months after the harvest, when the malolactic fermentation is over, the wine is put into oak barrel, one-third new each year. Racked every three months, it remains there until bottling which takes place in the spring of the second year following the harvest. Full of finesse the Chateau Larrivet Haut Brion wines are characterised as being soft, well balanced with a good tannic structure. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot reach their peak between five and 20 years cellaring. The 2000 vintage is a the deep ruby-purple-coloured wine that has aromas of ripe dark forest fruits and new oak. The blend is, firm, tannic, concentrated with a medium to full-body style while the sweetness of fruit complements a lengthy finish. Available in half bottles. (24 x 37.5 cl)
