Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste 5eme Cru Classe Pauillac
Description: This estate dates back to the 16th century with a chateau built partly in 1737 and partly in 1850. The epicurean Raymond Dupin ran Grand Puy Lacoste from 1932 to 1987 and bestowed an excellent reputation upon the wine. The Borie family have subsequently built on this so that it has risen above its cinquieme Cru classe status. Its facets usually include a rich polished, duly concentrated taste with noble tannins. It contains splendid fruit like blackcurrant and often cherry and plum plus restrained oak and vanilla notes with earthy, spicy elements. "Dark ruby-coloured with purple nuances, the supple, lush, fruity 1995 possesses medium body, light intensity new oak, soft tannin, and low acidity. Made in a clean, medium-bodied, user-friendly, accessible style, this wine will have many fans." Parker, 87. (12 x 75 cl)

Chateau Broustet 2eme Cru Classe Barsac
Description: The Estate is owned by Didier Laulan, whose family have produced wine in Barsac for generations. It is located outside the village of Barsac in the so-called 'Haut Barsac' area. Chateau Broustet covers some 16 hectares in this part of the Garonne valley, better known as Sauternais. The location of Barsac-Sauternes near the Garonne, gives rise to special conditions in the autumn, when the morning mists are followed by hot days, thus favouring the development of noble rot. This action of 'botrytis cinerea' produces water evaporation, which leads to a natural sugar concentration. The soil is siliceous gravel on clay and limestone subsoil, which has a high iron content. This gives Barsac wines their special character. The average age of the vine is 40 years old, planted in proportions: 80% Semillon, 10% Sauvignon, 10% Muscadelle. Extreme care is given to the picking, and it can take 5 or 6 rounds to pick all the grapes. After the vinification, which takes place in small stainless steel vats, and up until the bottling, the wine ages for two years in barrels, renewed by a third each year. A very sweet full bodied white wine, excellent as an aperitif and also accompanies desserts to round off the meal. The severe pruning of the vines combined with the concentrating action of noble rot gives a low average yield of 12 hectolitres per hectare, that is to say 2000 cases of 12 bottles. (24 x 37.5 cl)

Chateau d'Yquem 1er Cru Superieur Classe Sauternes
Description: In 1993 Chateau d'Yquem celebrated 400 years of ownership by the same family. In 1593, the Sauvage family bought the estate, which came into the Lur Saluces patrimony when Francoise Josephine de Sauvage married Count Louis Amedee de Lur Saluces in 1785. In 1855 the estate was given the honorary title of premier Cru superieur, ranking it above all others. The present owner, Comte Alexandre de Lur Saluces, took over the management of the estate in 1968. Highly motivated to perfect this prestigious product while respecting tradition, he is determined to offer maximum quality, and makes no compromises with every wine he produces, leading one taster to describe the wine as distilled dew and honey with the fragrance of all the fresh wild flowers of the field greeting the dawn. The only grapes picked are those effected by botrytis, noble rot, and following fermentation, the wine is aged for several years in oak barrels. (12 x 37.5 cl)

Chateau Climens 1er Cru Barsac
Description: There is perfect harmony between this very demanding varietal and tes terroir, both of which are conducive to the development of noble rot. From this unique alchemy is born the inimitable balance, smoothness and incomparable finesse of the wines from Climens. As with the vinification, barrel maturation is adapted to the characteristics of each year, It lasts approximately 20 months, following which the fledgling wine, once bottled, will be able to fly alone and as it ages enchant many a generation of connoisseurs. It is a rare occurrence, but only five families have owned the estate from its origins and its surface area in a continuous single vineyard, has practically remained unchanged since its creation. The name Climens, which appears for the first time on a contract dated 1547, apparently meant unfertile or poor land in a local dialect: an admirable paradox for such a great terroir ! The vines appear to have been planted as early as the end of the 16th century, hence the chateau became one of the much-envied First Growths in 1855. Lucien Lurton, a specialist of terroirs and the owner of several famous classified growths in the Medoc, bought the domain in 1971. Since 1992, the chateau's destiny has been in the hands of his daughter, Berenice Lurton. She takes great care in perpetuating the magic of Chateau Climens, by ensuring that this legendary growth shines with evermore brilliance and elegance. (6 x 75 cl)
