Chateau Mourgues Du Gres LES GALETS Rose Costieres De Nimes
Description: The motto of the estate, taken from an old sundial outside the house, is sine sole nihil . The sun is in these wines. Les Gres is named after a specific terroir that is covered by the 'galets roules', or pudding stones, that were transported to this site by a glacial moraine and provides one of the defining characterisitics of the appellation of 'Costieres de Nimes'. The Galets Roses is a mostly Syrah based rose with a touch of Grenache to complete the blend. After the bleeding method used to create this rose, in which juice is bled and blended from other tanks prior to fermentation, this wine is then vinified and matured in stainless steel tanks for 6 months. Rigourous temperature control throughout fermentation preserves all of this wine's natural fruit and freshness. Its deep colour is due to the presence of the anthocynins and these were favoured by the alternating heat during the day followed by the relative cool of the evenings. Predominantly from vines more than forty years old Syrah with Grenache and a touch of Carignan and Mourvedre this wine is full, fresh and fruity, with good aromatic length. (6 x 75 cl)

Chateau Pesquie TERRASSES Rose Rhone Valley Vineyards Ventoux
Description: Les Terrasses rose is produced in very limited quantities because it is from a small 3.3 hectare vineyard located south-east at an altitude of 280 to 310 meters, the vineyard is planted on a limestone and clay with a top layer of pebbles. This wine is a blend of Syrah, Grenache, and Cinsault the result is a deep, bright, clear pink colour. The red berry nose develops on the palate as raspeberry notes are evident in this very fresh roses. This wines name comes from the Latin terras, meaning 'lump of earth'. The Cotes du Ventoux region is characterised by alternating hills and valleys. To make the most of this exceptional terroir, grape growers and other farmers had to accomplish the colossal feat of building 'terraces' into the steep hillsides, choosing especially well-protected, sunny locations. Still today, the Provence countryside boasts centuries-old olive trees planted on terraces called restanques or rebanques in Provencal. Paul and Edith Chaudiere chose this name in homage to the Provence countryside terraces their ancestors carved into carefully chosen sites. The sleepy village of Mormoiron was certainly shaken up when the dynamic Chaudiere family bought Chateau Pesquie and set about making wine to a level that had never before been achieved in the Ventoux. Paul Chaudiere is keen on technology, but also devoted to quality. He employs new methods to produce wines of simply stunning quality from his 72 hectares, with richness, colour and concentration that his neighbours can only dream of. Ambition seems to have been coupled perfectly with both an innate winemaking ability and a rare understanding of the market ensuring that this family domaine produces wines of great quality that people want to drink. 'One of the superstar estates of the Cotes-du-Ventoux', according to Robert Parker. (12 x 75 cl)

Dopff & Irion LES SORCIERES Gewurztraminer Alsace
Description: The Irion and Dopff families were already wine connoisseurs in the 16th Century and have been closely involved in the fortunes of the village of Rique throughout the ages. The firm of Irion and Dopff was established when Rene Dopff joined fortunes with the widowed Madame Irion. Clustered around Riquewihr, the 27 hectare vineyard worked by Dopff and Irion is extremely well situated. The different types of soil and the varied climate means that rich, powerful and complex wines are created. Les Sorcieres refers to the part of the Domaines du Chateau de Riquewihr planted with Gewurztraminer. Local legend has it that this is where Witches were burned during the Middle Ages. A Golden yellow coloured wine, it displays subtle, elegant Gewurztraminer aromas. Delicate spice and fruity, this wine is enhanced by hints of smoke and a dash of pepper while developing fragrances of violets, apricots, tropical fruit and roses. Its scents are reflected in the flavours, sustained by hints of ultra-ripe grapes. Supple and fresh, this is a fruity, rich, highly expressive wine with an impressive structure.
