Château Lascombe is a 2eme Cru property and is one of the largest estates as well as one of the most fragmented. Presently this second growth Chateau is owned by Bass, who have invested heavily in the property, particularly a state-of-the-art, stainless steel cuvier. The grapes used in the blend are dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with a touch of Petit Verdot. The wine is then aged in oak barriques, 60% new, for around 18 months. A deep ruby red color, with aromas of spring flowers and dark berry fruit. Full of sweet tannins, high concentration, and tremendous persistence full of intense flavours and a long, long finish. Chateau Loudenne Cru Bourgeois Superieur Medoc
Description: Chateau Loudenne, situated on the banks of the Gironde estuary, is one of the most delightful sites in the Medoc, the charm of which did not escape the appreciative eye of its owners, Marie-Claude and Jean-Paul Lafragette. Chateau Loudenne stretches over a superb estate of 132 hectares, with 48 hectares of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, and 12 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. Since the Lafragette family bought Loudenne in March 2000, work on the vines has been conducted with the specific aim of enhancing the individual character of Loudenne's terroir and therefore its wines. Accordingly, right from the pruning season though to harvesting, every task is carried out with the utmost care to produce better wines, even down to the job of thinning out the harvest and the foliage by hand in September to help the ripening process. Once in the winery the grapes are vinified in stainless steel or lined concrete vats and ageing for 16 months in the cask takes place, of which 30% of the casks are renewed every year. Great care is again taken when choosing different coopers. Here they are adapted to each specific wine enabling Loudenne to obtain complex more telling aromas. Commitment to quality is a constant at this winery and since 2000 malactic fermentation is carried out in all the new casks, here the aromas imparted by the vats are better accepted by the wine as well as this the age-old technique makes the tannins silky and the wines rounder. This Merlot is the second wine of Chateau Loudenne and has a lovely fruit driven style with a smooth lengthy finish. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £161.38

Chateau Canon La Gaffeliere Grand Cru Classe Saint Emilion
Description: Vines have been grown at Chateau La Gaffeliere since Gallo-Roman times, as attested by a villa from this period discovered by Count Leo de Malet Roquefort. His family have owned and managed this chateau for four centuries giving them a richer and longer history than any other winegrowers in Saint-Emilion. The current owner makes use of this experience to renovate every now and then but also to perpetuate the traditions that have made La Gaffeliere famous worldwide. The wine is a deep ruby-red colour and it has a rich and complex bouquet with hints of blackcurrant and truffle. 18-20 months in new barrels. "...a compressed but alluring, medium bodied, finesse-filled format...pretty fruit and a dry, crisp finish. Anticipated maturity, 2000-2010." Parker, 87. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £758.97
