Clos Des Cazaux LA TOUR SARRAZINE Gigondas
Description: The domaine was founded in 1905 by Gabriel Archimbaud and is now run by Maurice Vache and his two sons Jean-Michel and Frederic. The Archimbaud's and Vache's are among the longest established families in Vacqueyras. The Estate is part of a property dating back to the 12th century and belonged to 'Les Chevaliers de l'Ordre des Templiers'. Additionally, on the property sits an ancient Moorish ruin, the Tower of Sarrazine after which this wine is named. Today, this highly rated property now owns 25 hectares in Vacqueyras and 15 hectares in Gigondas. The Gigondas vineyard is very stony and low yielding while the vines are between 30 and 50 years old. The vines planted are 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre and the annual production is only 8,800 to 10,000 cases and therefore this wine is produced in limited quantities. Gigondas Tour Sarrazine is a blend of 80% Grenache with some Syrah and Mourvedre with longer ageing before release. It shows great richness with a developed flavour of spice and dried fruits, very long and supple in the mouth. (12 x 75 cl)

Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru
Description: Alain Meunier and his wife, Sophie own this 7 hectare vineyard estate based at Premaux-Prissey, south of Nuits, additionally they have vineyard holdings in many parts of the Cotes de Nuits. Attention to detail and a passion for their work has produced wines with an exciting and enviable reputation. The grapes are grown organically and, to maximise the fruit, all the grapes are de-stemmed before vinification. These are powerful, rich wines that are bottled early to protect their intense, concentrated fruit. The wines are only racked before bottling, so there is 15-18 months of extended lees contact. The grand crus are aged in 100% new French oak, and the premier crus in 80%. The Domaine owns vines in a perfect part of the Clos Vougeot vineyard and makes one of the greatest examples of this appellation. Firm, chewy and dark ripe fruit, a full and defined structure with plenty of ripe tannins to balance the great long finish. Big, roasted nose combines ripe cherry, chocolate, licorice, mint and spicy oak. Large-scaled, fat, rich and sweet, with a mouthfilling texture. Low in acidity but seemed to grow fresher with air. Finishes rather suave, with considerable chocolatey oak and very good aromatic persistence. Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Mar/Apr 2004 (6 x 75 cl)

Clos Des Cazaux CUVEE DES TEMPLIERS Vacqueyras
Description: The domaine was founded in 1905 by Gabriel Archimbaud and is now run by Maurice Vache and his two sons Jean-Michel and Frederic. The Archimbaud's and Vache's are among the longest established families in Vacqueyras. The Estate is part of a property dating back to the 12th century and belonged to 'Les Chevaliers de l'Ordre des Templiers'. Additionally, on the property sits an ancient Moorish Tower, the Tower of Sarrazine that unfortunately today is in ruins. Today, this highly rated property now owns 25 hectares in Vacqueyras and 15 hectares in Gigondas. The vines planted are 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre and aged between 40-50 years old, and the annual production is only 8,800 to 10,000 cases and therefore this wine is produced in limited quantities. The wines are vinified traditionally with no oak ageing and the Vacqueyras Cuvée de Templiers is a rare wine made from only Syrah, the finesse and superb varietal definition of spicy fruit is more reminiscent of Hermitage than Southern Rhone. This wine has a rather animally nose, quite Rhone-like with notes of crushed blacked pepper and melted tar, while the palate is full-bodied soft entry and a spicy mid-palate.
