Collards Chenin Blanc Hawkes Bay NZ
Description: Collards Brothers is a family owned company dedicated to growing and producing premium wines. The original estate was founded in 1910 by an English horticulturalist, J.W. Collard. During the 1960’s further plantings of the best classical varieties then available were undertaken by Lionel Collard on the Henderson Estate. Today this vineyard grows Merlot, Malbec, Semillon and Riesling. In 1979 a second Collard vineyard was established by Bruce and Geoffrey Collard which today produces many of the top wines under the 'Rothesay' label. This site is favoured with unique conditions for viticulture with gentle slopes, high sunshine hours and warm summers moderated by Tasman sea breezes. Grown in the highly regarded district of Gimblett Road in Hawkes Bay, this vintage was produced from two pickings and fermented one third in the manner of a Chardonnay and two thirds as a crisp, vibrantly fruity style before these batches were blended together for maximum complexity. This is a pale yellow coloured Chenin Blanc showing a ripe, pineappley fruit character with background hints of honey and refreshing acidity. (12 x 75 cl)

Bergsig Estate Chardonnay Breede River Valley RSA
Description: The Bergsig Estate has been in the Lategan family since 1843. De Wet Lategan is the sixth generation winemaker and has obtained a BSc degrees in Oenology at the University of Stellenbosch, before joining the family firm in 1990. His brothers Louis and Plum manage the vineyards. Their father Prop Lategan is still very active in the general management and promotion of the wines from his beautiful 400 Ha farm in the foothills of Bainskloof Mountain. Bergsig Estate lies at the narrow funnel-like entrance to the Breede River Valley. The regular afternoon South-easterly breezes have a moderating effect on the summer heat and ensures cool picking temperatures throughout the day. The Bergsig Estate was the first winery outside the coastal region to earn a superior award for red wine. More specifically the 1978 Cabernet Sauvignon. This encouraged Prop Lategan to plant more red varieties and today 20% of all plantings are Cabernet Sauvignon , Merlot, Pinotage, Ruby Cabernet and Tinta Barocca. On the white side Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc and now the very popular Gewurztraminer predominate. The modern cellar handles 4000 tons per harvest and boasts a separate wood maturation cellar.
