Description: Deep colour with little age. Intense ripe plum, violet, leather and vanilla aromas. Powerful warm fruit flavours with superb texture and very long complex finish. Great balance.. One of the most famous estates in ChiantiClassico, Castello di Volpaia is owned by the elegant Giovanella Stianti and run by enologist Maurizio Castelli. The modern winemaking equipment is discreetly arranged within the confines of the medieval hamlet of Volpaia near Radda. The vineyards include some of the highest in the Classico area, up to 600 metres. This influences the style of the Volpaia wines, which are always rich in floral perfumes and elegant in texture. This is true across the range, from the beautifully balanced ChiantiClassico, to the more oaky and developed Riserva and through to the two fine “supertuscans”. Coltassala is mainly Sangiovese, with ripe plummy fruit, controlled oak flavours and fine tannins.
