Description:
Vina Portal del Alto was established in 1970 by Alejandro Hernandez, professor of Oenology at Santiago University. The estate now consists of four vineyards planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon. Alejandro Hernandez is currently the President of the OIV , the most important international Organisation of vitiviniculture based in Paris, France. He is also co-author of 'The Vines and Wines of Chile', published in 1986 and author of 'Wine and Vineyards of Chile' in 1993. In his professional practice he also acts as consultant to other Chilean vineyards and the Ministry of Agriculture. He produces all the wines of Portal del Alto himself and has a collection of world-wide awards for his wines, including 'Best 50 Vineyards' by the International Wine Magazine in 1996 (12 x 75 cl)
