Collavini IL GRIGIO Brut Sparkling Fruili
Description: In 1896 Eugenio Collavini, the founder, first supplied to the best Udinese's families his wines without ever imagining that a century later they would reach the world over. Thanks to the lucky foresight and intuition of the Manlio Collavini, Il Grigio was created in 1974. The foundations for a good sparkling wine were already in the cellars. The right mixture just had to be found between Prosecco, and Chardonnay to obtain a wine that would be innovative and easy to drink. Chardonnay was chosen for its elegance and body. The addition of the Prosecco was essential, for a sparkling wine that's easy to drink and even easier to enjoy. The Chardonnay grapes come mainly from the Friuli hills, the Prosecco from Conegliano and Valdobbiadene. Made separately, they come together in the tank. This Sparkling wine is a bright straw colour with a greenish tint and a lasting foam with fine, constant bubbles. A fragrant nose with a hint of apples and pears as well as the scent of yeast lead to a full flavoured wine with a slight touch of citron and a long-lasting taste. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £133.74

Collavini PUCINO Refosco DOC Isonzo
Description: In 1896 Eugenio Collavini, the founder, first supplied to the best Udinese's families his wines without ever imagining that a century later they would reach the world over. The historic roots of this fascinating variety, one of the most prestigious and sought after natives of Friuli, are lost in legend. They say that the Homeric hero Diomedes stopped at the mysterious River Timavo and planted the first Refosco vines in the territory of Friuli, in exchange for the water that quenched his horses' thirst. Later, Pliny the Elder sang its praises, and insisted that Livia, wife of the Emperor Augustus, owed her 86 years to it. Francesco Da Manzano, in his annals of 1390, recalls that a number of Roman ambassadors offered 20 terracotta or glass jars holding over a litre, known as ingastariis, full of precious PUCINUM from Refosco grapes, to the General of the Dominicans. The history of Friuli is rich in pages that praise the extraordinary Refosco family, a variety that is now grown in this region with varying results, all of them valid, from the hills down to the Adriatic coast. We can find all its gifts in Pucino. Intense ruby red, with typically vinous, fruity nose and strong blackberry and raspberry notes. The powerful impact of the wine on the palate is accompanied by a slightly herbal background, and the partial carbonic maceration gives a certain individuality. The result is a fresh wine that can adapt to fish-based dishes. In line with tradition, the Collavini family bottle the new Pucino vintage on St. Valentine's Day, 14th February.

Collavini Merlot di Casa DOC Isonzo
Description: In 1896 Eugenio Collavini, the founder, first supplied to the best Udinese's families his wines without ever imagining that a century later they would reach the world over. There's no doubting its great robustness and richness of colour in this Merlot, when young it shows violet reflections which gradually take on a garnet hue as it ages. A full, lingering, constant nose, hints of slightly vinous vanilla, just a touch of herbs, and strong overtones of raspberry and blackberry. As the Merlot ages it refines considerably, reaching a balanced, harmonic complexity. The flavour is dry, robust, with just the right amount of tannin and a clean reflection of the nose. With time, it develops a full fragrance and good aromatic persistency.
Collavini TURIAN Ribolla Gialla DOC Colli Orientali del Friuli
Description: In 1896 Eugenio Collavini, the founder, first supplied to the best Udinese's families his wines without ever imagining that a century later they would reach the world over. The Ribolla grape is a variety that's definitely a native of Friuli, in whose dialect it's known as Ribuele. It's grown almost exclusively on the hill faces running from Cividale through the Collio to Gorizia. Additionally, there are mentions of the cultivation of this variety going back to 1300. This is a straw coloured wine with greenish reflections, while it is distinctive, dry, lemony, with medium strength. The pleasant, soft nose complements the soft, floreal aromas from forest plants such as acacia, oak and birch, and clear lemony notes. Soft, delicate, dry flavour with a thin hint of acid this is a wine to savour. (6 x 75 cl) Price: £98.44

Collavini BROY Bianco DOC Collio
Description: In 1896 Eugenio Collavini, the founder, first supplied to the best Udinese's families his wines without ever imagining that a century later they would reach the world over The grapes, carefully chosen amongst the over-ripened bunches, are gathered separately on special grid trays. Only the Tocai Friulano and the Chardonnay grapes are then concentrated in a modern temperature and humidity controlled fruit-cell. The Sauvignon grapes are gently pressed and the juice maintained at a low temperature in order to block fermentation. The pressing of Tocai Friulano and Chardonnay grapes then follows, before these three are then fermented together in small oak barrels from the Allier forest, that are perfectly aged and toasted. The wine is bottled and rests for further 3-4 months before release. The wine is a blend of Tocai Friulano, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanch and has a deep golden yellow colour with aromas of sweet acacia and vanilla that integrate well with the tropical fruit notes. This wine presents a full body, round, harmonious and long with lingering aromas. (6 x 75 cl) Price: £133.82

Collavini MERLOT DAL PIC DOC Collio
Description: In 1896 Eugenio Collavini, the founder, first supplied to the best Udinese's families his wines without ever imagining that a century later they would reach the world over. The top of the hill is the most suitable part of the vineyard: sun, range of temperature and ventilation make up the best atmospheric conditions in order to achieve the perfection of grapes. The name of this wine is derived, according to the Friuli language, from the name of a hill or a mountain summit or 'Pic'. This wine has been produced making use of the typical regional variety of Merlot dal Piduncolo Rosso grapes as well as of Merlot grapes of french origin. The vines used in this wine are between 25 and 30 years old. A deep ruby-red coloured wine it is also showing violet hues, while there is a complex, concentrated and intense scent of blackberry, liquorice and spicy notes that overlap with a delicate vanilla backtaste. The sensations in the mouth enlarge themselves imperiously; the taste seems richly fruity, thick and dense all at once, with delicate and soft tannins. In its final expression it gives off all its refined body developing a heat which overwhelms because of its intensity and balance. Available in Original Wooden Crate. (6 x 75 cl) Price: £133.82

Bressan Schioppettino Farra d'Isonzo Gorizia
Description: The Bressan Mastri Vinai winery, located within the town of Mariano del Friuli in the Gorizia province, dates back to the 1600's. Their vineyards are drenched in rich Celtic history in the form of the strategic landscape of Farra d'Isonzo and the winemaking philosophy is founded on family values and a respect for the land and the ancient culture, where limpid horizons seem to capture sensations, colours, scents and flavours most effectively. Where the slopes of the Collio region fade gently and open up on to the Isonzo river valley these vineyards are located on a segment of land shielded to the north by the Julian Alps and open to the hot winds of the Adriatic Sea from the south, where a rare mixture of natural elements have combined to create a unique and inimitable "terroir." With this natural protection extreme climatic conditions are avoided, and moderate weather permits early development of the entire growing cycle by several days with respect to vineyards that are farther from the river, thus granting grapes with excellent levels of maturation. Fulvio Luca Bressan, a classically trained Bordeaux winemaker and descended from a family long dedicated to the vines, cuts no corners when it comes to making wine. Like many in Friuli, he's of the opinion that varietals such as Pinot Nero and Cabernet Sauvignon do not "belong" to the French, since those varietals have been cultivated by their ancestors since the early nineteenth century. He believes that these grapes have not only a home in Friuli, but can reflect in their quality and terroir that long history, and be among the finest in the world. For him, the fruit and its pips dictate readiness for harvest, and wood treatment should always reflect subtly in the finished juice. Made from 100% Ribolla Nera aka Schioppettino. Intense in its warm velvety colour and flavour, this ruby red wine presents a full fruity flavour of wild blackberries, raspberries, strawberries and blueberries and that typical Friulian rasp.
