J Moreau et Fils Terret Chardonnay Vin de Pays d'Oc
Description: In 1814 the young cooper Jean-Joseph Moreau settled in Chablis where he married the daughter of a local wine grower. The house of J. Moreau & Fils was thus created. After having been a pioneer in the Chablis region, J. Moreau & Fils has become one of the biggest Chablis producers over the years, as well as one of the oldest and most active négociants-éléveurs of the Chablis region, recognised for its know-how and the style of its wines which respect the terroir and are enjoyed today in over 80 countries. The grapes are harvested at full maturity, crushed, de-stemmed and pressed before undergoing enzyme addition and cold settling. The juice is then racked. Fermented under controlled temperatures and matured on the lees. Le Terret is an old grape variety from the Languedoc, also called ''Bourret'', it is a hardy grape variety which is cultivated around the Bassin de Thau lake. It is chosen for the freshness it gives to its dry white wines. In combination with Chardonnay it has produced a wine of brilliant pale gold colour, with a fruity nose full of citrus aromas. The palate is fresh, with notes of green apple and lemon, good vivacity and nice finish. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £76.56

Houghton Sparkling Wine Pemberton Western Australia
Description: Houghton Wines, based in the heart of the Swan Valley, contains a wealth of romantic history. Named after Lieutenant Colonel Richmond Houghton in 1836, the first commercial vintage was produced in 1859 totalling 25 gallons, the foundation for one of Australia's oldest continuous winemakers. The picturesque Houghton winery property has 50 hectares planted with premium grape varieties including Verdelho, Chardonnay, Semillon and Chenin Blanc. Early documentation and current research suggests the first vines were planted between 1830 and 1836. In addition Houghton operates four of Western Australia's largest vineyards at Moondah Brook, Pemberton, Mt Barker and Frankland River, along with sourcing fruit from Margaret River, Harvey and emerging premium areas. These diverse wine regions provide the necessary fruit requirements vital for the production of premium table wines, which are distinctly Western Australian. This sparkling wine is a medium straw colour, crystal clear with a fine and persistent bead. Aged Aromas of toast and butter mushrooms are complemented with fresh yeast autolysis characters. A well structured balance of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir provides an even and balanced palate of great length. The extended bottle maturation on yeast lees gives great complexity and depth to the delicate palate. A wine of finesse finishing with crisp, natural acid.
