Maison Bouachon LA TIARE DU PAPE Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc
Description: The Bouachon family have maintained their stewardship of some of the finest wines in the Rhone since 1898. Just a few kilometres in the north of Avignon, on hillsides and terraced grounds soaked in sunlight and swept by the Mistral , stretches this renowned wine-growing region boasting soils covered with large siliceous pebbles which create the famous '' oven '' effect. It is in this excellent place that the 13 grape varieties found in Châteauneuf-du-Pape acquire characteristic maturity thereby endowing to the wines their savours brimming with a mineral and tasty tang of unmatched fullness. Of the various authorised varieties of white grapes, La Tiare du Pape basically includes four of them Grenache blanc, Bourboulenc, Clairette and Roussanne. Picardan and Picpoul grape varieties play a minor quantitative role in the making of blend. Pale yellow colour with fine golden hues. Complex fragrance of white flowers, honeysuckle and blossom, with hints of liquorice ; rich and harmonious on the palate, robust, followed by an exuberant refreshing sensation and lingering flavours. Description: A domaine is not the sum of their interests. It is the sum of their gifts. St. ExuperyÂ’s beautiful words could have been written for the Sabons, proprietors of Domaine de la Janasse. Aimé Sabon first established his cellar in 1973 and now owns a total of 50ha including 13ha in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The best sites are planted on a mix of galet stones, sands and clay and provide exceptional fruit. Since taking over the winemaking from his father in 1991, Christophe Sabon has set this 45 hectare property on the road to becoming the Beaucastel of the future. Tiny yields from the old vines give great intensity of fruit, while the flavours are preserved by temperature control, and expertly sculpted by judicious us of barrique. ChristopheÂ’s talent is to express the brightness and intensity of the grape, and capture all the nuances of terroir. The Grenache Blanc and Clairette in the blend are sourced from vines planted in the 1940's. 100% aged in 1/3 new barriques with lees stirring for 14 months. Between 900 and 1200 bottles made in any year so the availability is limited This is a blend of 80% Rousanne, 10% Clairette and 10% Grenache Blanc with a ripe, expressive nose of dried tropical fruits and citrus. Domaine de Beaurenard Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc
Description: This is a rare wine, accounting for just 7% of the appellation's total output. From vines planted in sandy soil, and preferably blond sand. Produced with white grapes only: 30% Clairette, 20% Grenache Blanc, 25% Bourboulenc, 22% Roussanne and 3% Picpoul and Picardan. Crop picked and sorted by hand. Grapes destemmed, then pressed pneumatically . Temperature-controlled fermentation at 18-20ºC to obtain the fruit without technological aromas. Kept on fine lees for several months before bottling. Chateau Fortia Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc
Description: The Domain Chateau Fortia, is one of the oldest of Chateauneuf du Pape. History has it that it used to be an outbuilding of the pontifical castle where the cardinals kept their stables. The domaine took importance when Hercule de Fortia d'Urban took it over.The count of Ripert Monclar wrote in his essay entitled , The Life and Works Of The Marquis Of Fortia of Urban published in 1843 that it was a lovely little hermitage. The lands registry of 1763 offers further proof with the mention of a small farm belonging to the marquis of Fortia maintained on a share-cropping system. However, this Chateau has another important role in history. During the early 20th Century Baron Pierre Leroy, through marriage, became the head of the estate. Due to the deteriorating quality of the Chateauneuf-Du-Pape wines in general, the Baron drew up a charter that became the basis for the AOC wine law system. Today, the Chateau maintains the spirit of the AOC wine laws and after a manual harvesting and a compulsory sorting, , the grapes are transported in small crates in order to ensure their arrival at the cellar in the best of conditions. Only 3 hectares have been put down to white grapes with Roussanne, White Grenache and Clairette making up the majority of the vines. Manually harvested in the winery they are directly pressed and the must is run off into vanished metallic tanks where it is racked to eliminate all large particles. Fermentation takes place in small tanks at 20º C. Once the alcoholic fermentation is completed , the wine is kept in its fine lees. There is no malo-lactic fermentation, in order keep its freshness. The wines are then bottled in the Spring following the harvest. A distinguished wine with a deep gold colour, excellent peachy intensity and a creamy finish. (6 x 75 cl)
