BaronPhilippe de Rothschild MOUTON CADET Reserve Medoc
Description: This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon , Merlot and Cabernet Franc is a deep garnet red coloured wine. Both dense and elegant, the nose opens with ripe fruit, especially blackcurrant and strawberry. A wine of great class and character, it has a massive attack on the palate that is sustained by well-rounded remarkably textured tannins. Great overall harmony between the forward fruit and high quality structure give way to fine tannic length and an elegant finish. Since 1933 BaronPhilippe de Rothschild, located at Pauillac in the Medoc, has been motivated by a constant ambition: to make the world's finest wines, each in its own category, whether the chateaux wines for which it is responsible – the renowned Chateau Mouton Rothschild, a First Growth, and its distinguished lieutenants, Chateau Clerc Milon and Chateau d'Armailhac – or branded wines, like the famous Mouton Cadet or the Mouton Cadet Reserve range . BaronPhilippe de Rothschild SA has also exported its know-how beyond Bordeaux: to the Pays d'Oc, with a range of varietal wines and, more recently, Domaine de Baron'arques; to California, with Opus One; and to Chile, with Almaviva. One of the key factors behind the company's undisputed success is the art of blending, which it practises with exceptional skill and this is reflected in the Mouton Cadet Reserve range. Description: This wine is a mix of Semillon , Sauvignon and Muscadelle . Coppery gold in colour, the wine has a highly concentrated nose of honey, gingerbread and beeswax mingled with fresher notes of acacia and lime blossom, giving an elegant and richly scented whole. Dense on the palate, with body, character and heft, it displays delicate floral notes and fuller flavours of very ripe tropical fruit. The complex flavours of the elegant and unctuous finish reflect an ample and generous vintage. Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1er Cru Classe Pauillac Description: Wonderfully rich and still holding back. Beautiful plum, toasted oak, berry and tobacco character. Firm with a full body. In 1855, when the original classification was made, it had to be satisfied with the top placing in the second crus. This was probably due to the fact that the property had been bought in a relatively neglected state by Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild two years before the classification took place. This meant he had no opportunity to make the estate and the vineyard respectable. Mouton was then no more than a farmhouse and it was not until 1880 that James Rothschild built the elegant dwelling now known as Petit-Mouton. The property continued in the family of Rothschild and BaronPhilippe took over the running of the property in 1922. He was determined to raise Mouton to a premier grand cru. One of the first things that he did was to introduce mandatory chateau bottling (6 x 75 cl) Price: £1076.36
