The Bouachon family have maintained their stewardship of some of the finest wines in the Rhone since 1898. The vines from which this vintage is produced have been rigorously selected on the right bank of the Rhône, as high up as Gard, a soil on which the finest white wines of the Côtes du Rhône are produced. On these clay/limestone and red-clay, stony terraces, these grape varieties are found in abundance. The ''Rabassières'' take their name from Rabasse that means ''truffle'' in Provencal. Predominantly grenache blanc . The viognier can be clearly detected by the palate and contributes to the aromatic complexity of the wine. Vinification is traditional. Fermentation takes place at low temperatures for the optimum extraction of the primary aromas of the fruits. The cuvee is bottled after blending. Platinum gold robe with attractive green shades. First nose very mineral, with aromas of citrus, white flowers , and quince paste. On the palate, the wine reveals a fine balance between fullness and a slight acidity, confirming flavours of quince paste and crystallised fruits. The finish is very long with aromas of pear and apricot. (6 x 75 cl)

Maison Bouachon LA MAURELLE Rouge Crozes Hermitage
Description: The Bouachon family have maintained their stewardship of some of the finest wines in the Rhone since 1898 and La Maurelle represents the typicity and character of this appellation of the Northern Rhône Valley. This is the largest of the Bouachon Northern Côtes du Rhône vineyards. The Crozes Hermitage appellation covers 11 municipalities surrounding Tain l'Hermitage. La Maurelle comes from the terrain in the south of the appellation, consisting of the granite terraces that overhang the Rhône. Using only the syrah grape it is subject to semi-carbonic maceration for some twelve days at a controlled temperature, with frequent pumping over and crushing. After fermentation, the wine is taken to Bouachon's cellars at Châteauneuf du Pape, where it is matured for several months in oak casks. Very deep, dark red robe with deep purple shades, the nose does not yet express its full bouquet. The impact on the mouth is very well balanced, with aromatic notes of red fruits, spices and liquorice. The tannins have produced a wine that is well balanced in the mouth with a long finish. (6 x 75 cl) Price: £78.30
