Adriano Ramos Pinto DUAS QUINTAS RESERVA Vinho Tinto Douro DOC
Description: Founded by Adriano Ramos Pinto in 1880, Casa Ramos Pinto rapidly became noted, at the time, for its innovative and enterprising strategy. Aware that the quality of its wines were confined to the terrior of the wine producing Douro region, Casa Ramos Pinto meticulously studied the Demarcated Region and eventually became the owners of a number of estates with very special characteristics that are reflected in the wines produced today. By perfecting its wines, Ramos Pinto created unique nectars with its own signature and in 1990, Casa Ramos Pinto became part of the Roederer Group that has enabled it to develop and promote its wines to the international market. Duas Quintas is a blend of grapes from two very special Ramos-Pinto vineyards. Quinta da Ervamoira lies in a rocky, low altitude area on the banks of the river Caa. Here the grapes grow to full maturity in the hot, dry weather, contributing density and body to the blend. About 20 miles away lie the granite-filled vineyards of the Quinta dos Bons Ares. Situated at a higher altitude, the grapes here derive fresh aromas and lively flavours from the cooler growing conditions, adding lively vivacity to the finished wine. This wine is a blend of Touriga Nacional grapes, with a small proportion of Tinta Barroca. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for six months in new oak casks and then bottled at Bons Ares, where it matures for another two years. An intense dark red coloured wine with red fruit aromas. Spicy and mature the oak is evident with a touch of vanilla in this intensely flavoured wine. Good acidity gives this wine balance in the mouth while there is a harmony between the sweet powerful fruit and the tannins. (6 x 75 cl)

Bodegas Pinord CHATELDON Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon Penedes
Description: The history of Bodegas Pinord can be traced back to the time when, over one hundred and fifty years ago, the Tetas family began making white and red wines on their estate in Sant Cugat Sesgarrigues from grapes they themselves had grown. Even at that time they produced and aged the wines using the most traditional methods employed in the region. In 1942, José María Tetas set up the current winery in Vilafranca del Penedès, just four kilometres from the original estate. Having inherited the family methods and traditions, it has gradually grown until it has now become one of the most highly reputed wineries in the region. Clean, dark mahogany in colour with reddish-brown overtones this wine has an extremely intense bouquet reminiscent of the casks in which the wine was aged, as well as certain vanilla hints and spices such as black pepper. These aromas mingle with those of the Cabernet Sauvignon variety to create a very special personality. The Cabernet variety can be appreciated much more in the mouth, although this highly characteristic taste is somewhat softened by the 14-months ageing period in oak casks and the further two years ageing in the bottle. This has produced a wine with a great harmony of flavours and roundness while it is extremely persistent and long-lasting. (12 x 75 cl)

Covinca TORRELONGARES GRAN RESERVA Carinena DO Aragon
Description: Covinca was founded in 1987 after the merger of 2 cooperatives; that of the Almonacid de la Sierra and the Longares . Today, Covinca is managed by a young but experienced team representing over 700 members who together possess 3,000 hectares of vineyards and are the third largest bodega in Carinena. Carinena is one of the oldest Denominaciones de Origen in Spain and the oldest in Aragon. Viticulture began in the time of the Romans where indigenous grape varieties of Garnacha and Carinena were then taken to other parts of the Roman Empire . The Carinena Denominacion de Origen is situated 56 km south east of Zaragoza, Aragon, and is situated in the Iberica mountain range between the Campo de Carinena valley and the Ebro river. The Denominacion covers 50,000 hectares and has a long viticultural tradition and rich cultural heritage dating from the mudejar period. Generally the climate is arid in Carinena, with an annual rainfall of 350mm. The summers are dry and sunny, the winters are cold and the area often feels the effects of the 'el Cierzo' wind, which contributes to the dryness of the climate. This wine is a blend of Carignan Garnacha and Tempranillo. From vines planted at an altitude of 600 m, in the 'Denominacion de Origen Carinena'; the oldest D.O. in Aragon and the second in Spain, after D.O.Rioja. The average age of these vineyards is 50 years and this wine is aged for 18 months in 225 litre barrels of American oak before being released. A deep cherry red coloured wine it displays warmth and personality. Sweet and savoury cherries and red berry fruits flavours combine together with notes of spiciness and tobacco based on the vanilla tones and soft tanins. Impressive, with strength of character, long lasting ripe fruit and velvety fine structure this is a wine to savour. (6 x 75 cl)

Marques de Riscal RESERVA Rioja
Description: It was Don Camilo Hurtado de AmÉzaga, MarquÉs de Riscal de Alegre, who in 1860, through his revolutionary ideas, put his mark on the historical Spanish wine map. His innovative methods imported from Bordeaux, much criticised at that time, brought a new way of understanding and elaborating our best wines. Following in the innovative wake of the Bordeaux wines, MarquÉs de Riscal built the first Spanish cellar of the Modern Age. Located in the heart of Rioja, its construction was overseen by the prestigious engineer, Ricardo Bellsolá. More than 200 stonemasons were employed on the construction. Its two-metre thick walls allowed for the maintenance of a constant temperature of 14º. Wines, for the first time in Spain, were elaborated with Merlot, Malbec, Pinot Noir and other varieties. These new incorporations did not substitute the indigenous varieties such as Tempranillo, Mazuelo and Graciano, rather the masterful combination of both origins gave rise to the unique accent of the Riscal wines. For the selection of its grapes Riscal has over 200 regular suppliers, going back four generations from father to son. By general consensus, an agricultural plan has been established, thanks to which growers are advised on each and every aspect so that the final product complies fully with the desired parameters for maximum quality. Deep in colour, a subtle fragrance of cinnamon with very ripe fruit and soft tannin. (1 x 3 Litres)

Bodegas Faustino CAMPILLO Reserva Especiale Rioja DO
Description: Don Eleuterio Martinez Arzok was born in Barriobusto. In 1861 he bought a house and lands in Oyon and founded the Faustino Group. At the turn of the century the vineyards were totally destroyed by phylloxera. His son Don Faustino Martinez Perez de Albeniz was born in 1904 and, in 1920, he helped his father rebuild and restore the vineyards. Faustino began bottling their wines in 1930 and by 1957 Don Julio Faustino Martinez, the third generation, took over the family business and in 1960, the Faustino brand was created in honour of his father. Today, the Faustino group owns several Bodegas including the 50 hectare estate Bodegas Campillo. Producing exceptional wines this is a blend of 60 % Tempranillo the balance is made up of other complementary grape varieties. After ageing 24 months in American and French Allier oak casks this wine spends a further 48 months in bottle. This has produced a bright, deep, dark cherry red coloured wine with complex, elegant red berry notes on the nose with a spicy finish. This wine is clearly developing and rounding off into balsamic notes while the palate is hefty with a good tannic attack showing long toasty and tobacco as well as hints of integrated wood. Initially powerful it mellows into a pleasant, silky finish on the long aftertaste. (6 x 75 cl)
