These cellars are impressive and inside there are some 300 barrels, mostly new. While his wine style holds back on the use of new oak only using small proportions in the village and 1er Cru wines the result is a restrained wine with steely concentration and elegance. The 2001 vintage Mersault has aromas and flavours of white fruit and custard with hints of orange and spice. A classic Burgundy style delicate, fine with great richness and power and a long finish. The Genevrieres vineyard is a mix of clay and chalk with vines over 35 years old, and as such the terrior is superbly reflected in this wine. This is a complex well balanced Chardonnay with aromas of spice and very ripe fruit which combine to produce a palate with intense flavours that are complex and support the long finish. (6 x 75 cl)
