Vergelegen Sauvignon Blanc Western Cape RSA
Description: This wine is made from Sauvignon Blanc and a little Semillon and is a pale green colour with a nose that jumps out of the glass. It is showing gooseberries, fig, tinned peas, black truffle, elderflower, some ripe fruits, cut grass, green pepper while the wine is full, intensely flavoured and very long on after taste. The Vergelegen vineyards are located on south or south-west facing slopes and this Sauvignon blanc is selected from both Vergelegen’s own vineyards in Somerset West and selected vineyards on the West Coast near the town of Koekenaap, approximately 400 km from Vergelegen. The grapes are picked when the desired flavours are showing at optimum. No skin contact is employed as they believe this technique leads to coarse wines. The juice is settled for 72 hours at low temperatures before inoculation with the desired yeast strain for Sauvignon grapes. To avoid conformity with other SA producers, they ferment at higher temperatures. This leads to fuller, bigger and more intensely-flavoured wines. Vergelegen, meaning 'situated far away', was granted to the Governor of the Cape in 1700 and the property has had a long and fascinating history since that time. Original owner Willem Adriaan Van der Stel, was a man of divergent interests who transformed the uncultivated land into a veritable paradise. He planted vines, camphor trees and oaks, laid out fruit orchards and orange groves, and introduced cattle and sheep, while today it is owned by Angolo America Farms. (12 x 75 cl)

Specogna Friulano Colli Orientali del Friuli
Description: This Friulano is an outstanding wine. It has a rich, nutty perfume, with hints of straw and elderflower which give way to an intense, structured palate that finishes powerfully and long. Grapes for the Specogna Friulano are grown on a small 3 hectare vineyard approximately 80-150 m above sea level on a north east facing slope. The soils here are limestone and marl. Specogna waits until the grapes are very ripe before picking, to maximise fruit character. The Specogna family now has 15 hectares of vineyard on the hill of Rocca Bernarda in the heart of the Colli Orientali DOC zone in Friuli-Venezia-Giulia. The quality of the fruit grown by Graziano Specogna and his family is impeccable and Specogna waits until the grapes are very ripe before picking, to maximise fruit character. These are highly individual wines with a great richness of flavour. (12 x 75 cl)

Domaine William Fevre Chablis AOC
Description: On the nose this Chardonnay offers up aromas of ripe pear and white nectarine, while elderflower and vanilla pod nuances are also evident. A nice, ripe, flavoursome palate, quite full and fresh, with low acidity it displays the ripeness of the vintage with a toffee twist on the finish. William Fevre sold his business and leased his vineyards to Joseph Henriot in 1998 in order to 'retire' to Chile. The Fevre Domaine is now under the day-to-day care of Didier Seguier, a young oenologist with all the right instincts and a sure touch in vineyard management and vinification. His sole objective is to produce the very best quality Chablis possible. As at Bouchard Pere et Fils in 1995 Joseph Henriot is preserving the best of the old, while introducing the new only when there is the most positive effect upon quality. As a result the grapes are hand picked into 15kg mini crates to ensure that no grapes are damaged on the way to the winery which could prejudice the eventual quality of the wine. Yields continue to be kept low and the tradition of using oak casks for fermentation and ageing of the top wines is maintained, but always with a light touch, while it is deemed fundamental that the character of the wine and terroir must shine through in any tasting. The domaine extends over 50 hectares, of which 17 are in six of the seven Grand Crus classification regions. These precious Grand Cru vineyards gives the fevre estate a unique opportunity to demonstrate the essential differences between Chablis greatest vineyards, as each clearly expresses the character of its particular terroir. (12 x 75 cl)
