Ca' Rugate CAMPO LAVEI Valpolicella Superiore DOC
Description: Ca’ Rugate established by the Tessari family in 1986 has a great deal of respect for tradition and a passion for viticulture, inspired by firm convinction that the quality first is created in the vineyard and then in the cellar. Cà Rugate takes the name from the hill of volcanic origin, at the centre of the Soave Classico area, in which its vineyards are positioned. The soft inclinations of those hills were always adapted to create great wines because of their fantastic position, special microclima and special soil composition. The Estate covers 30 ha of Ca’Rugate, 25 ha around monforte d’apone and 5 ha around montecchia di crosara, in the region of Valpolicella. In the vineyard, they use modern pruning techniques, along with careful canopy management and green pruning; while the latest vinification techniques bring out distinctive aromas and refined flavours in the wines. The Campo Lavei vineyard on the hills of Montecchia di Crosara gives its name to this wine and is a blend of 40% Corvina, 30% Rondinella, 30% Corvinone. Harvested at the beginning of October, some of the grapes are set aside to dry in wooden trays until the end of December. The undried grapes are destemmed and fermented straight after the harvest. The dried grapes are added later and allowed to ferment in stainless steel for a week before pressing at the end of December. The wine is then transferred into small barrels to finish fermentation and then mature in wood for 8 to10 months. This is a deep ruby red coloured wine with intense aromas of black fruit and cherries, and a twist of spice from the wood. This is followed by a mellow rounded palate with elegant tannin balance and nice finish. (6 x 75 cl)

Corte Sant'Alda Ripasso Valpolicella Superiore DOC
Description: Marinella Camerani is on a mission to create authentic wines that are strongly connected to the local terroir. Manipulation and intervention are reduced to a minimum, in keeping with the ideal natural balance which is the principle that rules the estate. Continuous research and experimenting, both in the vineyard and in the winery, rediscovering old abandoned practices, techniques that have been replaced by modernity for its own sake, are the daily enterprise of Marinella and her family. Ripasso wine has been traditional in the Veneto for a long time. The best young Valpolicella is put into tanks or barrels that still contain the lees of the recioto for which they were previously used. When mixed with the young wine, active yeast cells in this sediment precipitate a second fermentation increasing the alcoholic content. As a result of the care in the winery this deep red coloured wine has a bitter-sweet recioto character as well as a smooth chocolatey texture.and after 24 months of ageing it confers intense ripe morello cherry flavours and plummy mouthfeel. (6 x 75 cl)

Alpha Zeta 'R' Ripasso Valpolicella Superiore
Description: Alpha Zeta was established with winemaker Matt Thompson in 1999. The original aim was quite simple: to produce mid-priced Veronese wines using fruit from selected vineyards rather than by buying and blending bulk wine from the various co-operatives. Over the years, Matt has developed a great relationship with a series of growers, and has convinced them to lower yields and pick later. This has resulted in riper and more flavoursome grapes. The grapes for these wines are sourced from vineyards in the Valpantena and Monteforte d'Alpone valleys, both of which are to the east of Verona. Once the grapes arrive at the winery, it is then Matt's job to ensure that these flavours are retained in the finished wine, and this he does admirably. These are modern, innovative wines that express the real quality inherent in Veronese viniculture. Made by re-fermenting the young wine on the skins of grapes that we laid down to dry has provided this deep red coloured wine with great depth and flesh. (6 x 75 cl)

Cantina Negrar Valpolicella Classico Superiore DOC
Description: Seven gentlemen, on august 23, 1933, set an appointment in the offices of Francesco Betteloni, notary public, to sign the deed giving birth to the Cantina Sociale Valpolicella. Today, the Cantina Valpolicella directs and coordinates the production of approximately 200 grape-growers with vineyards covering a total of 450 hectares. All these are located in the classic Valpolicella hillside zone. All have the same dedication and passion as the original founders. They work together and in their mutual interests to turn member producer's grapes into high quality wines, performing activities that improve winemaking and grape-growing knowledge and culture. The vineyards are situated on about 450 hectares in the classical Valpolicella Hills area Northwest of Verona, which are mostly concentrated in the town of Negrar. The most used system of cultivation is the traditional Pergola system, with about 2,500-3,000 plants per hectare, while the average age of the vines is 20 years. The cultivation of the vineyard has among its primary objectives the maximum possible degree of respect for nature: for this reason, biological techniques are used, and pesticides are used as little as possible. A blend of Corvina 65%, Rondinella 20%, Molinara 5%, and Corvinone 10% this wine is made from grapes located in the heart of the classic Valpolicella zone on the Negrar hills. The harvest is done entirely by hand, with many selections for special wines, such as the Amarone, produced from single vineyards to exalt its characteristics. This wine is a ruby red colour with hints of violets. The bouquet is a combination of red fruits with sweet tannin while the vinous and spicy palate is well balanced, full bodied and velvet (24 x 37.5 cl)

Tommasi Viticoltori RAFAEL Valpolicella Classico Superiore DOC
Description: Tommasi Viticoltori is a family firm founded in 1902 by Giacomo Tommasi and today the estate is run by the 4th generation of family. From grandfather Giacomo's tiny vineyard, the Tommasi estate has grown steadily and now extends over 135 hectares of hillside vineyard blessed by mother nature, not only by a magnificent landscape, but more importantly by its perfect suitability for grapes. The family owns exceptionally well situated estates for the production of high quality white wine in the D.O.C. regions of Soave and near Lake Garda for Lugana, Custoza and Bardolino . In addition, it has vineyards in Valdadige, a valley created by the Adige river in the mountains north of the province of Verona. This wine comes from the family vineyard 'RAFAEL' which is perfectly situated in the most prestigious hills of the region, produces what may be the best grapes for the production of 'Valpolicella Classico Superiore'. The combination of careful attention to the cultivation of this ancient vineyard, rigorous selection of grapes and their meticulous vinification, all contribute to the creation of this extraordinary wine in understandably limited quantities. This wine is a blend of Corvina Veronese , Rondinella and Molinara and spends 18 months in Sloavian Oak barrels before being released. This has produced an intense ruby red coloured wine with a rich spicy black pepper nose showing a hint of truffle. This red is fairly intense and spicy revealing sweet cherry flavours on the rich, full, warm palate giving way to a leather finish. (12 x 75 cl)
