Dark ruby coloured wine showing a nose that has hints of liquorice, cherry, liqueur and earthy leathery notes. The palate is dense while showing lively hints of truffle, espresso and a lively mineral finish. The grapes come from a single vineyard in Greenock in the northern part of the Barossa Valley which is situated at 550 metres above sea level and grown in a continental climate. The average age of the vines is around 60 years old and they receive very little irrigation to produce fruit of great flavour and concentration. The name 'Reiver' is taken from the border raiders of the Anglo-Scot borders. Throughout the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries the border country was ravaged by lawless Reiver families in a vicious cycle of raid, reprisal and blood feud. Their allegiance was first to the family, the surname, and not the crown, whether English or Scottish. (6 x 75 cl)

Koonowla Shiraz Claire Valley Australia
Description: Rich savoury nose with berry fruit and soft lifted oak and floral characters. This is a soft smooth wine that is full bodied displaying a rich mid palate. The sweet fruit carries to a balanced tannic finish. South Australia was founded in 1836 and the pioneering families of these early settlers quickly spread north to create Clare Valley, which remains one of Australia's most productive regions for wool, grain, and wine production. Koonowla was established there shortly after by Colonel Barker, who began a farming/grazing enterprise but sold in 1892 to John Tothill who, with great vision, planted the first vines, built a fine winery for commercial wine making, and produced wines with a thriving export trade to England. Koonowla became one of the six original wineries in the Clare Valley and continued to develop until a tragic fire in 1926 destroyed much of the stock and cellars. It continued with vitaculture as a major business activity for another twenty years, but slowly reduced the area under vines to make way for the economic boom developing from grain and wool production. Finally, in 1985, 8 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon was planted, heralding the recommencement of Koonowla wines as a bottle label. Koonowla's current owners are Andrew and Booie Michael, who purchased it in 1991 to expand their interests in the district. They immediately set to restoring the homestead and establishing new plantings (6 x 75 cl)

Dal Zotto King Valley Merlot Victoria Australia
Description: An attractive nose of ripe berry fruit leads to a palate exhibiting soft berry fruit with good firm tannins and vanilla oak overtones. The wine lingers in your mouth with a persistent dry finish. Merlot is a variety that softens quickly and 2 to 3 years in bottle would produce a soft mellow red. Select this wine to partner lamb or pork dishes for maximum enjoyment. Medium bodied red with a softer plumy palate. The style is light with excellent fruity aromas and flavours that still maintains a good tannic structure. Dal Zotto Estate Winery is located in the King Valley in the north of Victoria not far from the Great Murray River which forms the border between Victoria and New South Wales. The valley was settled by Italian Immigrants who were drawn initially to the rich soils for farming, but in the 1970’s Otto Dal Zotto decided to develop his passion for traditional wine-making. It is one of the few wineries in the King Valley still family owned and operated. Otto along with his eldest son Michael are responsible for the winemaking duties; the youngest son Christian looks after the selling and distribution. Middle son Julian is the viticulturist and he has a simple philosophy when in the vineyard -you can't make good wine with bad fruit- the result is a great range of food friendly wines that are approachable and have a distinct style. They are in a small group of wineries pioneering the cultivation of Italian wine varietals in Australia (12 x 75 cl)

Jim Barry THE COVER DRIVE Cabernet Sauvignon South Australia
Description: Situated in the cool uplands of the North Mount Lofty ranges about 50 km north of Adelaide, the vineyards of Jim Barry were established in Clare in 1959. This is a family run winery committed to producing quality wines through an innovative approach to viticulture and winemaking technology. As a result of this in Jim barry purchased great vine growing land on the southern boundary of Coonawarra. It was formally the old Penola cricket ground, which first saw a ball bowled in anger and the flashing cover drives of the local champions in 1950. Sadly, the ground closed in 1996 and soon afterwards Jim Barry purchased the 30 acre property and planted a Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard. However, the original pavilion and pitch have been retained, thus preserving an important piece of Coonawarra sporting history. Fruit from this vineyard, along with selected parcels of fruit from Jim Barry's other family owned Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in the Clare Valley have been blended to produce a wine that is rich, soft and approachable. Fruit from the Clare Valley and Coonawarra have been used to produce a dark red coloured wine with ripe blackberry, mint and sweet oak aromas. The palate is rich and full bodied with ripe, sweet blackberry and mint flavours, while it shows firm, but finely grained tannins complemented by a lingering finish. (6 x 75 cl)

Redbank THE LONG PADDOCK Merlot Victoria Australia
Description: Redbank’s badge, the Anvil, is a symbol of times gone by when the early settlers handcrafted their farming implements with the heat of the blazing forge and the strength of the anvil. This strength was apparent in the hard working migrants who established a thriving farming community in the rugged High Country of North East Victoria. Today a small, select 'family' of growers, some direct descendents of the original pioneers, produce premium fruit for the wines of Redbank. Vineyards that are lashed by blizzardly cold winter winds and buried in snow for part of the year emerge at harvest with grapes of the highest quality that enable the Redbank winemakers to produce superb cool climate wines. The Long Paddock Merlot is bright cherry red in colour while it has a lifted, fruit driven nose of blood plums, mulberry, cherries, spice and toast. A soft, fine grained palate, with ripe supple fruits, blood plums, blackberry jubes and aniseed spice notes. The soft finish reveals spice and lovely integrated oak. The Long Paddock wines honour the ingenuity and courage of the early Australian drovers. Inflicted with cruel and regular droughts, these men and women faced the option of giving up and starving along with their cattle and sheep or flinging open their boundary gates and allowing their stumbling, starving stock to roam the bush roads and tracks in the desperate hope of finding food and water. Somewhere. Anywhere. This was known as 'droving the Long Paddock', a task that could take them away from their family and home for months and months. Sometimes even years. Fortunately some stock was saved. Unfortunately for some, when the rains didn’t come the heartbreak of seeing their stock die became a regular occurrence. Inspired by the courage of these brave pioneers, Redbank began sourcing selected fruit from many of Victoria’s premium wine growing regions. This was the beginning of the Long Paddock tradition. Today, Redbank selects much of its fruit for our Long Paddock wines from the high altitude King and Ovens Valleys in Victoria’s North East.

Redbank SUNDAY MORNING Pinot Gris King Valley Victoria Australia
Fruit for the King Valley wines is harvested from vineyards which sit at nearly 800 metres above sea-level, covered in snow in winter and shrouded in cloud. The fruit was 100% hand picked and chilled, which minimised any unwanted colour or phenolics. Very gentle whole bunch pressing captured the delicate aromatics of the Pinot Gris. The juice was 70% cool fermented in stainless steel and 30% barrel fermented with some barrels undergoing malolactic fermentation for added complexity. The Sunday Morning Pinot Gris has a lifted delicate nose redolent with ripe pear, rose petals and spice. The palate is finely balanced with florals, clove spice and pear fruit, finishing with mouthwatering acidity and typical Pinot Gris texture. These King Valley wines were inspired by the history of Victoria. Long ago it was littered with long abandoned miners camps and long forgotten mine shafts that gave little to the battling prospector of the 1850s gold rush. During the same time notorious bushrangers roamed the high country of North East Victoria robbing the gold and mail coaches and stealing the valuable livestock of wealthy land owners. None was more famous than the legendary Ned Kelly. To some, Ned and his gang were folk heroes as their lightning hit and run skirmishes with the law, brilliant horsemanship and knowledge of the rugged bush continually frustrated the police and local authorities.

Dean Hewitson OLD GARDEN Mourvedre Barossa Valley South Australia
Description: The colour is a purple-red. Aromas are of spice, prune, blackberry and blueberry. Subtle hints of nutmeg and vanillin are woven through the wine. The palate is velvety and seamless, delivering concentrated black fruits and cherry. There is a slight gamey flavour intermingled with spice, making this wine very complex. A higher than normal new-French oak component builds a solid frame that the Old Garden fills completely. This wine will age beautifully for at least 10 years and is a classic Old Garden style. In 1853 Friedrich Koch planted this Mourvèdre vineyard in the heart of the Barossa Valley. In deep sand over a bed of limestone the vines flourished. By the 1880s the local vignerons had already acknowledged the vineyard as the Old Garden. To the end of the 19th Century and throughout the 20th Century subsequent generations of Koch's family have tended these vines in the traditions of the Barossa: bush vines, no irrigation, hand pruned and hand harvested. Today nothing has changed. Old Garden is likely to be the oldest Mourvèdre vineyard in the world. (12 x 75 cl)
