Description: Dating back to 1725, the estate was grouped into a number of small vineyards and in 1757 Mr. Gruaud formed one large one, under his name. Eventually a descendant of the first owner took over the property, his name was Larose, and he immediately linked his name to the estate, it was subsequently purchased by Mr Desire Cordier in 1915. In 1997, Chateau Gruaud Larose, after several other owners, was purchased by another traditional Bordeaux family, the Merlauts. The winemaking team at Chateau Gruaud Larose is overseen by Jacques Merlaut's son, Jean, and He puts the wine through a cold-soak prior to temperature controlled fermentation in wooden and concrete vats. Up to a third of the vintage undergoes malolactic in oak barrels, before ageing the entire wine in oak for eighteen months. Gruaud Larose is one of St. Julien's most popular and prestigeous wines.
