Domaine LaTerrasse D'Elise CUVEE LE PRADEL Vin de Pays de l'Herault
Description: The new, small domaine of LaTerrasse d'Elise was started in 1998 by Xavier Braujou who has had an illustrious career as a stagiaire, or apprentice, having served time at Mas de Daumas Gassac, as well as in Alsace. His vines and the wine are treated as naturally as possible, with minimum treatments in the vineyards, and with no finings, natural yeasts, and very little sulphur used in the winemaking process. Although 85% of Xavier's land is within the Appellation, all his wines are labelled as Vin de Pays, to allow him more room to express the character of each varietal. He is one of the last vignerons to graft his own vines in the vineyard, allowing him to continue a selection massale, choosing the vine stocks from within his own domaine, with no clonal vines. The domaine is named after his father's aunt, Elise, and this cuvee "Le Pradel" is made from 100% Cinsault, aged 12 months in barrique, with low yields of around 25 hectolitres per hectare. The result is a peppery slightly "confit" fruit nose showing notes too of violets, caramelised orange and olive. The palate of prunes, figs, and red fruits possess an unusual and very individual in style. (6 x 75 cl) Price: £124.77

Domaine Albert Belle Hermitage Rouge
Description: This family estate in the Northern Rhone has forged an enviable reputation for supple, generous wines. Previously a member of the local co-op the Belle family have rapidly made a name for themselves as a producer to watch. The domaine extends to 19 hectares in 4 communes and two appellations, Crozes-Hermitage and Hermitage. The red wines are produced traditionally using whole bunches of grapes and extended maceration. They are then matured in oak for between 12 and 18 months with 20 to 25% new barrels each year. A truly magnificent wine that shows just how great syrah can be. Immensely concentrated with deep, brooding, almost opaque fruit. Well balanced, the new oak never dominating the finely textured fruit. Complex, very serious and powerful and with a finish that, fortunately, lingers on. Limited availability. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £341.63
