Baron Philippe de Rothschild MOUTON CADET Reserve Medoc
Description: This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon , Merlot and Cabernet Franc is a deep garnet red coloured wine. Both dense and elegant, the nose opens with ripe fruit, especially blackcurrant and strawberry. A wine of great class and character, it has a massive attack on the palate that is sustained by well-rounded remarkably textured tannins. Great overall harmony between the forward fruit and high quality structure give way to fine tannic length and an elegant finish. Since 1933 Baron Philippe de Rothschild, located at Pauillac in the Medoc, has been motivated by a constant ambition: to make the world's finest wines, each in its own category, whether the chateaux wines for which it is responsible – the renowned Chateau Mouton Rothschild, a First Growth, and its distinguished lieutenants, Chateau Clerc Milon and Chateau d'Armailhac – or branded wines, like the famous Mouton Cadet or the Mouton Cadet Reserve range . Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA has also exported its know-how beyond Bordeaux: to the Pays d'Oc, with a range of varietal wines and, more recently, Domaine de Baron'arques; to California, with Opus One; and to Chile, with Almaviva. One of the key factors behind the company's undisputed success is the art of blending, which it practises with exceptional skill and this is reflected in the Mouton Cadet Reserve range. (6 x 75 cl)

Baron Philippe de Rothschild MOUTON CADET Reserve Saint Emilion
Description: An attractive cherry colour with a ruby tint, the wine has an expansive and generous nose which opens on a host of red fruit, cherry and raspberry aromas mingled with a touch of tobacco and liquorice. Blended from Merlot , Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon , this red is substantial, alert and well-structured on the palate, displaying very soft tannins perfectly enfolded in rich cherry-stone, spice, leather and blackcurrant flavours. The finish, combining charm, refinement and character, is thoroughly typical of both the terroir and the vintage. Mondavi/Rothschild OPUS ONE Napa Valley California
Description: A great deal of care and expertise is required to produce this wine which is a collaboration between Robert Mondavi and the Chateau Mouton Rothschild families. The brainchild of two leading lights of the wine world, Robert Mondavi and Philippe de Rothschild, Opus One is a Napa Valley based joint venture with a commitment to quality and perfection. Its magnificent location, opulent winery and state-of-the-art technology is grape nirvana. The grapes are hand sorted and it is only gravity that is used to move the berries from the destemmer into the stainless steel fermenting tank. As Opus One only makes 1 wine each tank is used only once during harvest so that fermentation and maceration do not need to be rushed. The tank draws out a myriad of rich flavours and colours from the grape skin, seed and pulp. The tanks are then raised so the free-run wine can flow into new French Oak Barrels, while the residue that provides the backbone to this wine is also barrel aged. Once ready Fining takes place that clarifies and polishes the wine. The 1997 vintage is a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot, 4% Malbec and 1% Petit Verdot. During the growing season abundent sunlight in the previous vintage produced high fertility in the vine buds and a large crop was thinned to the lowest per acre yield in a decade. As a result of this the harvest was very compact lasting just 11 days and produced wines of vigor with finesse. A complex, vigorous, fresh tasting wine showing currant, anise, black cherry, mineral, leather and sage flavors with delicate liquorice flavours and scents. Sweet and powerful, this is an easy drinking wine with subtle tannins and a marvellous finish. (6 x 75 cl)

Chateau Peyre Labade Listrac AC
Description: Chateau Peyre-Lebade wines feature the fruity and fleshy characteristics specific to the Listrac appellation. They are nonetheless distinguished by the high Merlot content, which makes them particularly supple. Chateau Peyre-Lebade veils a rich historical heritage, marked by several famous individuals. The limestone-rich geology of the site certainly influenced the name of the property, since Peyre-Lebade means 'Raised-Rock' . Indeed, the site features a former limestone quarry, which was probably used in building the neighboring villages. The first traces of viticulture on the site date back to the Cistercien monks of the Vertheuil Abbey in the 12th century. Several centuries later, in 1835, Bertrand Redon, who was Odilon Redon’s father, purchased the Peyre-Lebade estate. The great painter Odilon Redon lived and painted most of his most famous paintings at this estate. His work reflects the site’s charm, as well as his attachment to the family property. By 1979, the property had fallen into neglect, and was acquired by Baron Edmond de Rothschild, who was already the owner of the neighboring vineyards of Chateau Clarke in Listrac and Chateau Malmaison at Moulis. As of that date, Chateau Peyre-Lebade would undergo great changes in cultivation and quality under the direction of Baron Edmond. The vineyards were also drained and then replanted, and the buildings were renovated and completed by new constructions. (6 x 75 cl)

Chateau d'Aussieres AUSSIERES Rouge Vin de Pays de Languedoc
Description: Owner of Chateau Lafite Rothschild for five generations, the Rothschild family has been based in this Bordeaux vineyard since 1868. High values and respect of traditional methods make them passionate about harmony and excellence in the wines they produce. Their wines are a witness to that passion year after year and their skills have patiently enriched the wines through the generations, with world-renowned success. Domain Baron de Rothschild skills have served other exceptional Bordeaux wines and vineyards, which share the same values of humility and high standards. Over the years, Domain Baron de Rothschild has expanded its offerings through the acquisition of Chateau Duhart-Milon, 4th growth wine from Pauillac, of Chateau Rieussec, 1er growth Sauternes wines, of Chateau l'Evangile in Pomerol, of Chateau Paradis Casseuil in Entre-Deux-Mers and of Chateau Peyre-Lebade, Bordeaux wines in Haut Medoc. Recently, Domain Baron de Rothschild, in 1999, purchased Chateau d'Aussieres. Aussieres Red is a marriage of Languedoc and Bordeaux varietals, brought together in varied proportions depending on the vintage. The density and elegance of the Cabernets and Merlot are associated with the strength of the Syrah and, sometimes depending on vintage, the character of the Mourvedre. This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah and Mourvedre has produced a lovely intense dark red coloured wine. Showing a very open, expressive nose with a complexity of aromas, from each grape variety, melds together with notes of cedar wood, cherries and spices. Full and supple on the front palate, with lots of fresh fruit flavours this wine is backed up with fine, ripe tannins giving way to a lengthy finish that shows the characteristic elegance of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Chateau Duhart Milon MOULIN de DUHART Pauillac
Description: Owner of Chateau Lafite Rothschild for five generations, the Rothschild family has been based in this Bordeaux vineyard since 1868. Their wines bear witness to that passion year after year and their skills have patiently enriched the wines through the generations, with world-renowned success. Recently, Domain Baron de Rothschild in 1999 purchased Chateau d'Aussieres. Moulin de Hart is Chateau Duhart-Milon's second wine, and it is selected from vats of the 'Grand Vin'. The origin of the name comes from the former presence of a windmill on the Carruades, next to the Duhart-Milon vineyard. In general, the grapes are selected from the youngest part of the vineyard. Moulin de Duhart has several characteristics similar to the fine wine, but with a lesser potential for ageing as its ageing in barrels is much shorter. Therefore it best consumed younger than its more robust counterpart. This wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon 55 to 60% and Merlot 40 to 45%, spending 10 months in two year old oak barrels and that has produced a powerful and fruity wine. The structure is deep with firm tannins while it has great persistency with a lot of elegance. (6 x 75 cl)

Chateau L'Evangile Pomerol Bordeaux
Description: HISTORY Chateau l'Evangile has a distinguished history of stunning vintages and produces wines of great depth. The late, passionately devoted Louis Ducasse administered the estate for many years, and his formidable wife Madame Ducasse continued the tradition with equal fervor well into her 90's. Realizing the chateau's unlimited potential, the Rothschild family purchased a controlling interest in the estate in 1990. VINIFICATION The 35 acre vineyard is brilliantly situated on deep gravelly soil mixed with clay and sand. Late harvesting lowers yields but produces rich, concentrated wines. The proportion of new oak barrels used for aging runs to 50% or even higher. STYLE The outstanding Chateau l'Evangile has one of the best reputations in Pomerol, which it well deserves. The mature wine shows a rich, full-bodied nose of black fruits , chocolate, toffee, and roasted herbs. The complex bouquet accompanies a medium acidity typical of Merlot-based wines and ripe, plush flavors of compelling richness. Most vintages have strong tannins, giving Chateau l'Evangile one of Pomerol's best potential aging profiles of six to twenty-five or even more years following the vintage. A quality equivalent to that of a Medoc first growth gives this hard-to-find wine the potential to be one of the area's big stars even in lesser vintages. (12 x 75 cl)
