Il Borro IL BORRO IGT Tuscany
Description: Winemaking at Il Borro dates back to 1760 when the estate was under the rule of the noble Medici-Tornaquinci Family, since 1999 however the Ferragamo Family in conjunction with enologist Niccolo D'Afflitto have developed the winemaking process and opened a new state of the art winery. The estate, which extends over 700 hectares currently has 40 hectares of that land dedicated to vines. The soil has an excellent structure with a good sandy composition which denotes itself to the growing of five varieties of vine: Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese and Petit Verdot all of which are used in this blend. The grapes are accurately hand selected before soft crushing. The alcoholic fermentation lasts 10 days at 30°C, the maceration on the skins continues for a further 22 days. The wine is then racked in Allier oak barriques, in which the malo-lactic fermentation takes place, ageing for 12 month and fining for an additional 6 months. Intense ruby red coloured wine with purple reflections and an intense, rich vinous, complex bouquet of red berries, underbrush and sweet spices. This blend is dry, full-bodied, warm, smooth, luscious and has well integrated tannins, intense, well balanced, with a very long and pleasant finish. (6 x 75 cl)

Castello Banfi SUMMUS Sant Antimo DOC Toscana
Description: In 1978 John and Harry Mariani, successful American importers, joined forces with Italy's leading enologist, Ezio Rivella; their objective was to produce top-quality wine on a scale never before attempted in Italy. Castello Banfi is a rarity among Italian wine estates, not just because of its size , its composition of single vineyards, or its state-of-the-art winery, but because it was started from scratch a little over 25 years ago. At that time the Mariani Brothers were looking for an estate where the climate and soil had to be ideal for the cultivation of many of the world's noble grape varieties, and it had to be within a region of Italy that already had a tradition of quality winemaking. The 4,500 acres that the Mariani Brothers first found were near Montalcino, and eligible for the status DOCG of Brunello di Montalcino, one of the most prestigious of all Italian wines and it met the other criteria as well. By good luck the adjacent estate, of 2,600 acres, became available shortly afterwards and in 1984 the 11th century castle was the final purchase, and the estate was renamed Castello Banfi. Today Castello Banfi is producing a wide range of wines including Brunello di Montalcino that was Italy's first wine to be accorded D.O.C.G. status, a testament to its aristocracy, balance and fabulous proclivity for ageing. This wine is a blend of 45% Sangiovese , 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Syrah. It is aged Approximately 24 months but because of the outstanding structure an additional six months barrel ageing was required to achieve balance and harmony. The varietal spices contribute great complexity to the rich Brunello and Cabernet characteristics, resulting in rare length and richness. A wine that will handsomely reward the patience of lengthy bottle ageing. (1 x 75 cl)

Querciabella Chianti Classico DOCG
Description: Querciabella, founded in 1974 began life as a 1 hectare vineyard but today has 26 hectares of vines producing great wine with an international reputation. Concentrating on small yields where the emphasis is placed on concentration and richness of the fruit, the vineyard is run according to biodynamic priciples that exceed the European Standard.. Querciabella is a Chianti Classico DOCG that presently produces four wines from the vineyards of its Chianti Classico estate in Greve in Chianti. Batar is a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc; Chianti Classico; Camartina a blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon while Palafreno, a new release, is a blend of Merlot and Sangiovese. The grapes are carefully selected in the vineyards and harvested in 8 kilo crates. They are destemmed, but not crushed, then they are conveyed into temperature controlled stainless steel vats, where alcoholic fermentation and maceration take place. After completing a full malolactic fermentation, the wine is transferred into barriques. The oak is 100% French, and comes from Allier, Chatillon, Nevers, and Troncais. It is 30% new and 70% one year old or two year old for the Sangiovese, while it is 80% new for the other grapes. The wine is regularly racked and tasted during the whole barrel maturation, which may last up to 14 months. At the end of the élevage, the best lots are selected through extensive tasting, and they are assembled to create the final blend. After bottling, the wine rests for at least three months before release. This wine is a blend of 90% Sangiovese and a little Merlot, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon and is deep red in colour. The nose is full of concentrated ripe fruit and oak that develop on the palete as the dark fruit flavours combine well with the lively acidity and powerful tannic structure leading to an enjoyable, sophisticated finish. Magnum bottles available in Original Wooden Case. (6 x 1.5 Litres)
