Franz Haas MOSCATO ROSA Montagna
Description: The Moscato Rosa from Franz Haas has a deep cherry pink colour. In youth, it has intense perfumes of roses and cloves which change into faded roses and redberry fruits with age. The wine is very complex and smooth on the palate. Moscato Rosa is best drunk as an aperitif or an after dinner wine and will improve with age. It is perhaps one of Italy’s most sought after sweet wines. The Moscato Rosa is vinified as a red wine, with maceration on the skins to extract more colour. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and is stopped by reducing the temperature. After fermentation, it is racked into oak barrels where it matures for approximately 8-12 months depending on the vintage, followed by a period of six months in bottle before release. The Haas family have been growers in Montagna in the Province of Bolzano, Alto Adige for generations. It is only with Franz, however, the current proprietor, that they have begun to produce and bottle quality wines. The vineyards are primarily situated on and around the hilly slopes of Montagna at altitudes ranging from 250-800m above sea level. (12 x 37.5 cl)

Cantina Negrar RECIOTO della Valpolicella Classico DOC
Description: Seven gentlemen, on august 23, 1933, set an appointment in the offices of Francesco Betteloni, notary public, to sign the deed giving birth to the Cantina Sociale Valpolicella. Today, the Cantina Valpolicella directs and coordinates the production of approximately 200 grape-growers with vineyards covering a total of 450 hectares. All these are located in the classic Valpolicella hillside zone. All have the same dedication and passion as the original founders. They work together and in their mutual interests to turn member producer's grapes into high quality wines, performing activities that improve winemaking and grape-growing knowledge and culture. The vineyards are situated on about 450 hectares in the classical Valpolicella Hills area Northwest of Verona, which are mostly concentrated in the town of Negrar. The most used system of cultivation is the traditional Pergola system, with about 2,500-3,000 plants per hectare, while the average age of the vines is 20 years. The cultivation of the vineyard has among its primary objectives the maximum possible degree of respect for nature: for this reason, biological techniques are used, and pesticides are used as little as possible. A blend of Corvina and Rondinella this wine is made from grapes located in the heart of the classic Valpolicella zone on the Negrar hills, between 200 and 350 metres above sea level, and is made up of terrains of various origins, from calcareous to loamy, from volcanic to alluvial. The harvest is done entirely by hand, with many selections for special wines, such as the Amarone, produced from single vineyards to exalt its characteristics. The selected grapes are dried and vinification takes place at the end of January. The fermentation progresses slowly, thanks to low winter temperatures, until it is blocked by light decanting and filtering, to maintain a discreet amount of sugars and obtain a sweet wine. Dark ruby red coloured wine with an intense bouquet of wild cherry fruit, spice, choccolate and a seemingly endless succession of nuances. The palate is an astonishing combination of unusual structure and sweetness with unexpected suppleness and drinkability. Available in 50cl bottles. (6 x 50 cl)

Domaine Cazes GRENAT Rouge Rivesaltes
Description: Among a wide range of small producers the Cazes brothers have emerged as the leading name in Rivesaltes. Their estate of over 350 acres enables them to produce a variety of wines, yet it is through their sweet wines that they have gained popularity. These, known as Vins Doux Naturels, are wines of great concentration where the natural sweetness of the grape has been preserved. 100% Grenache Noir, the fermentation is traditional in that it is in contact with the skins. It is temperature controlled to around 22 degrees C. Natural grape spirit is added at the beginning of this fermentation which goes on for 15 days, then the grapes are pressed, aged in enamelled tanks for one year before cold stabilisation, filtering and then bottling. Complex aromas of figs, plums and liquorice dominate the nose. The palate is medium bodied and richly concentrated, though still retaining an elegant style, with a creamy mouthfeel and bags of ripe prune and plum flavours. The finish is deliciously saturating and quite opulent. (6 x 75 cl)

Botromagno GRAVISANO Passito di Malvasia Murgia Bianco IGT

Since the merger, considerable investments have been made to insure consistently high quality. Today, the wine is made from 100% Malvasia bianca and after harvest the grapes are left to dry on staw mats for one month and then pressed softly and lightly macerated. Stellar Winery HEAVEN ON EARTH Western Cape South Africa
Description: This wine comes from the Western Cape is the only area in the world where Rooibos tea, known since the time of the San for its medicinal properties, can be cultivated. It seemed only natural to combine the South African sun with ripe locally called Hanepoot grapes on a bed of organic Rooibos tea. During the drying of the grapes on straw and Rooibos tea, the fragrance of the Rooibos has infused the grapes. Next gathered the grapes are put through the crusher and destemmer. Next the fruit is soaked in its own juice, at low temperature, to re-hydrate the more raisined berries. The mash was then pressed and is being fermented in barrels until the yeast can go no further. Stellar Winery is situated 275 km north of Cape Town on the road to Namibia. The winery makes use of a semi-arid climate, unrivalled refrigeration capacity and extensive in-house engineering skills to produce modern, Fairtrade organic wines. Stellar Winery was the first organic vineyard and cellar operation to receive the highly sought after Fairtrade accreditation. Fairtrade companies undertake to empower economically disadvantaged workers and ensure that a fair price is paid for the product along the whole supply chain. Stellar Winery undertakes a big commitment with both farm and cellar staff transported to and from work, while families receive health care and the permanent services of a community worker. Workers receive free housing, electricity and water as well as subsidised schooling and child-care facilities. Finally, a percentage of the wholesale price of the wine is paid directly back to the Stellar Fairtrade Workers' Trust. The wine is made in the sparsely populated Namaqualand region and does not suffer the light pollution that plagues urban areas around the world. The dark nights and clean air result in a breathtaking cosmic display with the aptly-named Milky Way at its centre and the producer pays homage to this phenomenon with the Stellar Range. The wines are assembled from different farms, ferments and yeasts. Each wine in the blend starts with deep colour and ripe fruit and tannins. Individual nuances arise from organic agriculture, saline irrigation water, cooling afternoon winds, wild ferments and other still-to-be-discovered influences. Lightly wooded for structure rather than flavour, these wines offer a tasting experience that will provide a convincing argument for the ascendancy of organic over conventional wines. Available in 37.5 cl Half Bottles. (12 x 37.5 cl)

Corte Sant'Alda Recioto della Valpolicella DOC
Description: Marinella Camerani is on a mission to create authentic wines that are strongly connected to the local terroir. Manipulation and intervention are reduced to a minimum, in keeping with the ideal natural balance which is the principle that rules the estate. Continuous research and experimenting, both in the vineyard and in the winery, rediscovering old abandoned practices, techniques that have been replaced by modernity for its own sake, are the daily enterprise of Marinella and her family. This Recioto is made from specially selected grapes that are dried in a gradual, homogenous manner so that only intact, healthy fruit goes to be pressed. 65% of weight is lost in the drying process. The notable levels of extracts, tannins and sugars, as well as the low temperatures and the restricted environment provided by small oak casks, affect the progress of the fermentation, making it long, slow and intermittent, until it naturally comes to a standstill, leaving the characteristic residual sugar in the wine that is the hallmark of Recioto. A beautiful wine with a complex bouquet and raisined fruits. Available in 50 cl bottles. (12 x 50 cl)

Poggio Argentiera LALICANTE Vino da Tavola Passito
Description: Gianpaolo Paglia, an agronomist born and bred in Maremma, and Justine Keeling, an English marketing manager, bought the estate in 1997. They started making Morellino di Scansano , with the existing 6 Ha of old and high quality producing vineyards, whilst at the same time planting new vineyards using local varieties such as Sangiovese and Alicante. Additionally, they also built an modern winery and warehousing in 2002. Poggio Argentiera has emerged as one of Scansano's best wineries and it is today composed of two estates situated in two different areas of Tuscany's Maremma, near the town of Grosseto. At Podere Adua there is the head office, cellar as well as the winery and it is close to the Maremma Natural Park, in the coastal region of Grosseto. The second estate, Podere Keeling, is found in the hilly area to the North of the Scansano district, towards Monte Amiata. From the winerys oldest vineyards this swwet Alicante is harvested at least 15 days later than that of normal grapes, at which point the grapes are transferred to a 'Fruttaio.' In this room, air circulates freely through boxes containing the grapes, while temperature and humidity never exceed 19°C and 50 % respectively. After drying a month in these conditions, the original weight of the grapes has been reduced by approximately 30%. Once out of the Fruttaio the grapes are transferred as they are, including stems, to small, open, oak barrels with natural yeasts and without temperature control. Punching down of the skins is done manually, and the fermentation is stopped by taking the temperature down to 5°C when the alcohol cont. is about 13,5 % and the sugar content 130 gr/L. The wine is then moved into second year barrels for about 4 months and bottled in 375 ml bottles after the fining process and a sterile filtration. The wine is 100% Alicante, a variety typical to many local vineyards, . Traditionally, these two grapes are blended to make Morellino di Scansano . Here, they have taken Alicante on its own and put it centre-stage, where it can show off notes of elderflower, sun-dried tomato, liquorice, chocolate and spices, finely woven tannins and a fascinating inky colour. Drink it with chocolate or strong cheese to discover its personality at its best. This is a very labour-intensive, hand-made wine and so very few bottles are made. Available in 37.5 cl Half Bottles. (12 x 37.5 cl)
