Elevation varies between 240 and 280 metres. The soil is limestone, with a good proportion of clay marl originating in scree from the Combe de Lavaux, lending a well-rounded power. 'Lavaux Saint Jacques' is one of the most famed Premiers Crus, often equalling the quality of some of the Grands Crus.
