Cantine Leonardo Chianti Toscana
Description: This Chianti has an intense colour and lovely perfumes of cherries and fresh red fruit mingle with spicy, peppery notes. The wine has depth with good acidity. Early bottling ensures that the fruit is retained rather than dissipated. Cantine Leonardo was founded in 1961, and its first vintage was 1965. At the outset the co-operative fermented grapes and sold wine in bulk, and it was in 1971 that Cantine Leonardo began selling bottled wines. The co-operative has approximately 150 member growers. These wines are from the small, hilly area in the commune of Vinci, Cerreto Guidi and a limited number of surrounding communes. The quality of the Cantina Leonardo wines is attributable to the ethos of quality that has spread through Leonardo since the arrival of Alberto Antonini as consultant winemaker at the end of 1996. (12 x 75 cl)

Cantine Leonardo SAN ZIO IGT Toscana
Description: The San Zio vineyards have long been noted for the depth and quality of wines they produce, so in 1996 Leonardo decided to vinify the grapes separately. The result is a wine that impresses more with each vintage. Made from 100% Sangiovese fruit, it is full and fleshy on the palate. Cantine Leonardo's innovative IGT wines are proof that this is a co-op with a difference. The ability of Leonardo to produce wines of outstanding quality at different price levels makes them virtually unique among Italian co-operatives. (6 x 75 cl)

Cantine Leonardo SANTO IPPOLITO Toscana IGT
Description: Purple-red in colour, with good depth and 'legs' indicating a certain structure. Intense red fruit perfumes fuse with spicy, vanilla, black pepper and toasty oak. The immediate impact in the mouth is soft but incisive and savoury. After the initial ripeness, the structure of the wine comes to the fore, with tannin acidity and alcohol all perfectly balanced. Good length, with spicy flavours on the elegant finish. This red is a blend of Syrah 50% and Merlot 50% and the fruit comes from a small, hilly area of S.to Ippolito. Here, the grape growers belong to the Cantine Leonardo Leonardo da Vinci in Vinci, near Florence. Once in the winery the wine is aged ten/twelve months in 2,25 hectolitre barrique, then it is racked into bottle without filtration where it remains for a further six months before release. (6 x 75 cl)
