Description: Domaine Fichet is located in Burgundy in the small village of Ige, and more precisely in the hamlet of Martoret. From a long line of wine-growers, only Francis Fichet took the risk of creating his own domaine withdrawing from the co-operative winery of the village during 1976. He prospered and the domaine now totals about 11 ha of vines, of which 3/4 are Gamay and Pinot Noir, the rest is Chardonnay. The various varietals can be found on the two slopes that surround the domaine. The south-east facing slope , with its clay and limestone soil, is planted mainly to red varietals, Gamay and Pinot Noir as well as a portion of the whites . The south-west facing slope , is planted with Chardonnay vines which require more sun. The soil is rich in limestone and chalk which encourages the expression of the vine and favours terroir wines. Francis Fichet was one of the first winegrowers to plant Pinot Noir in Maconnais and is a great reflection of the terrior. This wine has a beautiful cherry red colour, and classic Pinot fruity characteristics. It is round and easy to drink with soft, integrated tannins on the finish. Available in 37.5 cl Half Bottles. (24 x 37.5 cl)

Louis Latour DOMAINE DE VALMOISSINE Pinot Noir Vin de Pays des Coteaux du Verdon Rouge
Description: The Domaine de Valmoissine is located on the site of the ancient monastery and university of Valmoissine at 500 metres above sea-level which guarantees sunshine during the summer months whilst remaining cool and limits the possibility of spring frosts. The ideally exposed south-facing vineyards bring the grapes to maturity at the same time as our Corton Grand Cru vineyards in Burgundy. They are entirely hand-picked before being fermented in stainless steel open-vats for a short period of 3-4 days. Pigeage will take place 2-3 times a day to extract colour and tannins. The wine is then matured in old oak casks from Maison Louis Latour's cooperage in Beaune in which the wines flavours and aromas develop naturally, and harmonise with the mellow wood flavours of the oak. The style of this wine resembles Burgundy's classical 'Vin Vermeil' that the first Louis Latour was producing at the end of the 18th century. Elegance and finesse packed with fruit, and a vivid 'vermeil' or bright red colour. Bottled after 8 months of maturation, it can be drunk with pleasure only a year after having been made. The resurrection of this style of wine already has a dedicated following. Soil: Argilo calcareous. Vinification: Traditional Burgundy techniques with oak-ageing. The Wine Magazine, April 1999: 90 points. 'Domaine de Valmoissine, located on a limestone plateau 50 miles North of Saint-Tropez, is cooled by mistral winds. There are no restrictions on grape varieties in this vin de pays zone which was created in 1992. Louis Latour has picked up the experimental gauntlet and created this stunning Pinot Noir. A lovely plum and blackcurrant nose. The palate has a bitter cherry, farmyard feel with an edge of ripe red plums and rich spice. A good characterful wine.' New Sotheby's Wine Encyclopaedia, Tom Stevenson: 'This stunning wine is easily the greatest vin de pays Pinot Noir ever produced. It could be the greatest vin de pays that has ever been produced from any grape variety, but it is not possible or fair to compare wines of totally different grapes and styles and say which is best. I am certain, however, that it is the most exciting vin de pays I have ever tasted. It is so soft and silky, with such a purity of fruit and so much finesse that few Burgundians would believe this is not a Burgundy, and a fine one at that. It's not cheap for a vin de pays, but it is better than many Burgundies twice its price.' The Wine Enthusiast November 15, 1998 tasting Domaine de Valmoissine 1996: 87 points. 'Pale ruby cast. Medium-bodied. Balanced acidity. Highly extracted. Mildly oaked. Brown spices, red fruits, dried herbs. Pleasantly aromatic, with a full and flavourful palate. Complex, yet delicate, with a well-balanced mouthfeel. Shows fine length and excellent varietal intensity.' Decanter October 1997 tasting Domaine de Valmoissine 1995 recommended: 'Smoky, chocolate aromas of medium intensity following onto the palate.' (12 x 75 cl)

Louis Latour CHATEAU CORTON GRANCEY Grand Cru Rouge
Description: The winery of Corton-Grancey dates back to 1832 but it has only been since 1891, after the ruinous phylloxera crisis, that the Chateau and its purpose built cuverie has been the heart of Domaine Louis Latour. This particular wine is only produced in years when the Pinot Noir grapes reach perfect maturity. The vineyards from the following holdings are planted with vines with an average age of over 40 years. After being aged for 18 months in the cellars of Corton-Grancey, each cask is then meticulously tasted and appraised and, then, only the finest casks showing the best colour and bouquet and capacity to age will be blended to make the final wine of Chateau Corton-Grancey which only appears in exceptional years. Soil: Marl-based soil, limestone base. Vinification: Traditional open-vat fermentation at the Cuverie of Corton Grancey followed by 18 months in oak casks. Chateau Corton-Grancey Grand Cru 1996 tasted 10th December 1998: A lightish dark ruby colour and a very expressive nose of ripe fruit overtaken by a smell of fur. This fruit concentration is seen clearly on the palate alongside some well-structured underlying vanilla from the oak and hints of bitter chocolate and black currant. A wine for the cellar. The Wine Spectator, May 15, 1999 reviews the Chateau Corton-Grancey 1996: 87 points. 'Light-bodied Pinot, showing a purity of pretty berry flavour that's sweet-tasting on the midpalate. Well made in a subtle style. Should gain depth with age.' (12 x 75 cl)

Jean-Claude Boisset Grand Cru CLOS DE LA ROCHE Morey-St-Denis
Description: This wine is aged in the cask for sixteen to eighteen months, using a fairly low proportion of new casks finally being bottled with a very light filtration. 100% Pinot Noir it is displaying a fine dark colour with ruby reflections. The aromas of spices and cherries develop on the palate of this a silky structured red wine finishing with a mellow woodiness. Morey-Saint-Denis, nestling in its enclave between Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny, produces no fewer than five Grands Crus. Forming the northern boundary of the commune, 'Clos de la Roche' takes its name from a rock used by the Celts for their rites. Adjoining 'Latricieres-Chambertin', Clos de la Roche produces Morey's most robust wines. The soil here is so pebbly and hard to work that it used to exhaust even the toughest growers. These hard brown pieces of limestone make for a very firm wine, but one with the best possible ageing potential. Today, 'Clos de la Roche' covers some 16 hectares. (6 x 75 cl)
