The members of the Giuseppe Mascarello family have been growing wines for more than a century and a half, first as farmers running the Manescotto estate in the village of La Morra for the marchesa Giulia Colbert Faletti di Barolo, and then on their own property since the late 1800s. Barolo Monprivato is only produced in great vintages, in quantities varying between 14 and 24 thousand bottles compared to an annual production potential of 41,000. After saying that the wine is matured in non-new casks of Slavonian oak with capacities varying from 20 to 90 hectolitres, and then undergoes a lengthy, soft maceration that can last up to 40 days in certain vintages. Sharing the characteristic of many of the other Mascarello wine it is a garnet red colour with orange-coloured highlights. The nose is both complex and fruity, elegant, intense and spicy, with flowery sensations. An excellent body with power and stuffing, demanding, masculine, long and full. (6 x 75 cl)

Mascarello MONPRIVATOBarolo DOCG
Description: It was the vine-tender Giuseppe Mascarello who began the family business back in 1881, in the village of Monforte d'Alba, where he purchased a site in Regione Pian della Polvere. Today, the family still run this well respected winery producing great wines that are a real reflection of the region. The Nebbiolo fruit come from the Monprivato vineyard in the village of Castiglione Falletto. Once in the winery the estate-grown bunches thinned during the summer undergo traditional-style, floating cap fermentation for 20/25 days. The wine is then matured in medium-sized Slavonian oak barrels for around 38 months. Garnet red colour with orange-coloured highlights, the nose is complex, very fruity, elegant, intense, spicy, with flowery sensations. Excellent body with power and stuffing this is a demanding wine, masculine, long and full. (6 x 75 cl) Price: £259.38

Terre da Vino ESSENZE Barolo DOCG
Description: Matured in oak for 24 months this classic ruby tending to garnet coloured Barolo has an intense and remarkably complex aroma, exhibiting generous nuances of violets, tar, and vanilla. On the palate it is dry, generous, and warm, with impressive body and texture through to a long-lingering finish. Barolo DOCG Essenze is a Barolo blend of the finest pedigree. Beginning in 2001, with the inauguration of Terre da Vino’s first winemaking facility in Barolo, they started producing small lots of cru-grown Barolos from prestigious vineyards, in particular from La Volta in Barolo, Ravera in Novello, Scarrone in Castiglione Falletto, Bussia in Monforte, Gianetto in Serralunga, an Annunziata in La Morra. Once the fruit is in the winery it follows the traditional local winemaking practice of blending together various separate lots to compose a Barolo. Despite utilising traditional winemaking practices, the house style is evident, which emphasises full-bodied wines with emphatic fruit, and optimal equilibrium among all of the components of this well made wine.
