Clique Chardonnay Viognier Minervois
Description: This wine is a blend of 55% Chardonnay and 45% Viognier that is showing a pale straw colour with an inviting, elegant nose of tropical fruits as well as a lovely hint of jasmine culminating in a long and rich palate that ends with a zesty citrus finish. The mature vines of the Chardonnay bring a solid palate structure dominated by ripe pear flavours, married with the aromatic flavours of peaches and lychees from the ripe Viognier fruit. All the fruit is sourced from the Minervois in the South West of the Languedoc region, Southern France. The Chardonnay comes from older, low yielding vines on the lower slopes of the Montagnes Noires, while small vineyards on the banks of the River Aude are the source for the Viognier. Here soils with high clay content produce vigorous young vines, with regular thinning of the foliage so that the open canopy allows maximum ripening and intensity of flavour. The fruit is harvested in the early hours of the morning when temperatures are coolest to ensure capturing maximum floral fruit characters of the Viognier grape. Both Viognier and Chardonnay are allowed to remain on their skins for 4 to 6 hours after crushing to achieve a balance of palate structure and colour. Next they undergo a long, slow, cool fermentation, the Chardonnay with a traditional Burgundian yeast, while the young Viognier fruit is fermented with an aromatic yeast often used with Sauvignon Blanc. Hartford Family Winery HARTFORD Chardonnay Sonoma Coast California
Description: Hartford Family Winery was founded in 1993 as a result of Don and Jennifer Hartford's appreciation for the wines, the people and the unique vineyards near their Russian River Valley home. Located in the Sonoma County town of Forestville, the winery is about 15 miles from the cool Pacific Coast. The grapes are harvested by hand early in the morning and clusters are hand sorted before a gentle pressing. The juice is fermented in small, French oak barrels, for 10 months, utilising the native yeasts present on the skins of the grapes at harvest. Allowing the indigenous yeast to ferment the Chardonnay juice helps us to craft wines with enormous complexity while retaining more character from each vineyard site. The Sonoma Coast Chardonnay presents perfumed aromas of vanilla, jasmine flower and crisp green apples complemented by fresh pineapple, kiwi, peach and Pippin apple flavours. A supple and complex fruit dominated mid-palate is enhanced by this wine’s fine texture and subtle minerality on the finish. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £208.59

Redbank SUNDAY MORNING Pinot Gris King Valley Victoria Australia
Description: Redbank’s badge, the Anvil, is a symbol of times gone by when the early settlers handcrafted their farming implements with the heat of the blazing forge and the strength of the anvil. This strength was apparent in the hard working migrants who established a thriving farming community in the rugged High Country of North East Victoria. Today a small, select 'family' of growers, some direct descendents of the original pioneers, produce premium fruit for the wines of Redbank. Vineyards that are lashed by blizzardly cold winter winds and buried in snow for part of the year emerge at harvest with grapes of the highest quality that enable the Redbank winemakers to produce superb cool climate wines. Fruit for the King Valley wines is harvested from vineyards which sit at nearly 800 metres above sea-level, covered in snow in winter and shrouded in cloud. The fruit was 100% hand picked and chilled, which minimised any unwanted colour or phenolics. Very gentle whole bunch pressing captured the delicate aromatics of the Pinot Gris. The juice was 70% cool fermented in stainless steel and 30% barrel fermented with some barrels undergoing malolactic fermentation for added complexity. The Sunday Morning Pinot Gris has a lifted delicate nose redolent with ripe pear, rose petals and spice. The palate is finely balanced with florals, clove spice and pear fruit, finishing with mouthwatering acidity and typical Pinot Gris texture. These King Valley wines were inspired by the history of Victoria. Long ago it was littered with long abandoned miners camps and long forgotten mine shafts that gave little to the battling prospector of the 1850s gold rush. During the same time notorious bushrangers roamed the high country of North East Victoria robbing the gold and mail coaches and stealing the valuable livestock of wealthy land owners. None was more famous than the legendary Ned Kelly. To some, Ned and his gang were folk heroes as their lightning hit and run skirmishes with the law, brilliant horsemanship and knowledge of the rugged bush continually frustrated the police and local authorities.
Pio Cesare L ALTRO Chardonnay DOC Piedmont
Description: In 1981 we planted some Chardonnay vines in a single vineyard of our estate in Treiso, replacing an old vineyard of Barbaresco. Since 1985 we produce with these Chardonnay grapes a limited quantity of barrel fermented Chardonnay called Piodilei. We wanted to keep the quantity of this wine very small and in the meantime we wish to give the chance to a wider number of consumers to enjoy our Chardonnay. In September 1993 we decided to ferment in stainless-steel tanks a part of our Chardonnay: the results was a fresh and vibrant wine with evident hints of ripe fruits. After some experiments we noted that adding to this wine a 25% of the same Chardonnay fermented and aged in new oak barrels, we reached an interesting wine spicy taste and persistent after-taste. So that we decided to create a new Chardonnay, with more pronounced fruity character but slightly lighter style. L'Altro in italian means (12 x 75 cl) Price: £197.21

Graham Beck Winery WATERSIDE Chardonnay Robertson South Africa
Description: Graham Beck Wines is now entering its third generation as a family winery. It was established in 1983 when entrepreneur Graham Beck purchased Madeba farm outside the Western Cape town of Robertson with a fervent ambition to establish a world-class winery in this region. Made at the Robertson Cellar this is one of Graham Beck Winery's most popular wines, and is a blend of 86% chardonnay and 14% colombard. Graham Beck’s Robertson cellar and farm are situated in the Breederiver Valley bordering the semi-arid Little Karoo region. The warm climate in combination with mineral and fossil rich soils gives this area a distinct character which reflect into its quality wines. Selection of Chardonnay vineyards was considered very carefully and the vines choosen have been planted on rich limestone soil. The Colombard vines were planted on alluvial soils along the Finch River. The harvest was done by hand and the grapes hand selected, the Chardonnay was picked during cool morning hours during the second week of February 2004 and the Colombard in the same way in the second week of March 2004. Both varieties were handled separately and were destalked, gently crushed and pressed immediately. The juice is settled overnight and then transferred to stainless steel tanks for fermentation at 14° to 16°C. Some of the Chardonnay and Colombard were fermented with staves. After fermentation the wine was left on it's lees for 6 weeks, during this time the lees was stirred once a week to aid in the mouth feel of the final blend. No malolactic was encouraged to ensure freshness and zestiness. The wine was then racked and prepared for bottling. This blend has a wonderful fresh lime aromas mixed with tropical zestiness on the nose. Good firm acidity with lots of citrus, melon and grapefruit flavours on the palate. Delightful wine with a long finish, this wine is to be enjoyed youthful. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £105.54
