Cartlidge & Brown PinotNoir Napa County California
Description: Medium-full garnet in color, the wine leaps from the glass with loads of baked chery/berry fruit character, along with anise, spice cake, and the 'beety' notes so appreciated in PinotNoir. Showing lots of vigor and sweet juicy fruit on the palate, the wine's muscle is matched by a supple texture and velvety tannins that give it great accessibility. This PinotNoir was produced from grapes grown in four counties: Mendocino , Solano , Sonoma , and Napa . This combination, in a good quality year, has yielded a wine with lots of classic PinotNoir character. The largest fraction, from Mendocino County, was grown in the Redwood Valley area, and created a cherries-and-plums fruit character and a plush texture on which to build the blend. Solano County in turn has given us its usual up-front fruit with ripeness that broadens the palate impression and gives the wine a pleasing and generous keynote. In Sonoma County , we benefited from a warm late season that produced a deep-colored, complex, mulberry-like fraction, adding some elegant tone and fine spice-cake notes to the whole; while our Napa component, from the southeast part of the valley, contributed spectacular power and depth, with rich stone fruit character, to the final blend. Jackson Wine Estates CAMBRIA JULIA'S VINEYARD PinotNoir Santa Maria Valley California
Description: Cambria's proximity to the ocean and east-west orientation gives this 1,405-acre property the diversity it needs to grow Chardonnay, PinotNoir and Syrah under perfectly suited conditions. As an estate property, Cambria's Vineyard Manager and Winemaker work in tandem to perfect the winegrowing process. Together, they select only the finest grapes from the estate to bear the Cambria name. Every grape is hand-harvested and crafted into wine with the utmost care and respect for the varietal. This 100% Estate grownPinotNoir has spent 6 months ageing in French oak and Winemaker Denise Shurtleff considered: 'Julia’s PinotNoir offers abundant ripe cherry, grape, and strawberry flavours that open into underlying earth tones. A round mid-palate leads to vanilla and cinnamon spice on the silky finish.' In 1986 Barbara Banke and her husband, Jess Jackson, bought the premium acres of the Tepusquet Vineyard with the intent of establishing a family-owned estate property that farmed and crafted exceptional wines. Since then, her vision has become reality. Cambria has carved out a reputation for lush, tropical Chardonnay, velvety-textured PinotNoir and rich, spicy Syrah, all grown on one contiguous property. In recent years Cambria has concentrated its vineyard and winemaking resources into amplifying different aspects of the Cambria estate. This effort launched an in-depth exploration of the vineyard and varieties on this cool-climate property. The result has elevated the quality of Cambria's core wines, created new site-focused and distinct winemaking styles, and dramatically highlighted the bold flavours of each variety.
