Jackson Wine EstatesLA CREMA PinotNoir Russian River Valley California
Description: Part of Jackson Wine Estates, La Crema winery was founded in 1979 and quickly established itself as a pioneer for intensely flavoured Chardonnay and PinotNoir. The Russian River Valley is home to La Crema and the moderating conditions are ideal for cultivating PinotNoir with naturally bright acidity and concentrated black cherry fruit flavours. Hand-picked PinotNoir grapes from cool climate vineyards are delivered to the winery in small half ton bins to protect the integrity of the fruit. Once in the winery the belt delivery system with sorting table purges damaged fruit so that 70% retention of whole berries before fermenting takes place for greater fruit expression. Next a four day, cold soak before fermentation is undertaken enhances soft tannins, next open top fermentation with punch-downs four times daily occurs to extract colour. Aged takes palce for nine months in 100% French oak barrels that refines the finish and the wine is then bottled unfiltered and unfined to express the pure character of PinotNoir. Winemaker Melissa Stackhouse had the following comments to make about this wine: 'Flavours are focused on dark fruits; blackberry, plum and black cherry with hints of coffee, clove and subtle exotic spices. The tannins are broad and offer a lingering juicy fruit finish.' Jackson Wine EstatesLA CREMA PinotNoir Sonoma Coast California
Description: La Crema was founded in 1979 and quickly established itself as a pioneer for intensely flavoured Chardonnay and PinotNoir from the cool Sonoma Coast. Continuing this tradition, La Crema pursues the ultimate expression of the Russian River Valley, Carneros and Anderson Valley by handcrafting wines of distinctive flavour which achieve elegance and balance The Sonoma Coast is located on the western coastal fringe of Sonoma County, starting with a narrow strip at the Mendocino County border and continuing through the mouth of the Russian River; then down to the Sonoma Carneros border of Napa. This AVA is the largest in Sonoma County yet is the least planted. Known for its dramatic flux in temperature, the warm days and cool nights allow gradual ripening of grapes with fully developed flavours, high natural acidity and low pH. The region’s cold conditions push the limits of grape growing making it particularly well suited for Chardonnay and PinotNoir. Once in the winery this 100% PinotNoir is aged 8 months mainly in French Oak, of which 28% are new barrels. As a result Melissa Stackhouse, La Crema Winemaker considered: 'Aromas of black cherry, licorice and anise. Cherry and plum flavours with hints of leather and tar, balanced acidity and sturdy tannins round out the mouth.' (6 x 75 cl) Price: £91.29

Jackson Wine Estates CAMBRIA JULIA'S VINEYARD PinotNoir Santa Maria Valley California
Description: Cambria's proximity to the ocean and east-west orientation gives this 1,405-acre property the diversity it needs to grow Chardonnay, PinotNoir and Syrah under perfectly suited conditions. As an estate property, Cambria's Vineyard Manager and Winemaker work in tandem to perfect the winegrowing process. Together, they select only the finest grapes from the estate to bear the Cambria name. Every grape is hand-harvested and crafted into wine with the utmost care and respect for the varietal. This 100% Estate grown PinotNoir has spent 6 months ageing in French oak and Winemaker Denise Shurtleff considered: 'Julia’s PinotNoir offers abundant ripe cherry, grape, and strawberry flavours that open into underlying earth tones. A round mid-palate leads to vanilla and cinnamon spice on the silky finish.' In 1986 Barbara Banke and her husband, Jess Jackson, bought the premium acres of the Tepusquet Vineyard with the intent of establishing a family-owned estate property that farmed and crafted exceptional wines. Since then, her vision has become reality. Cambria has carved out a reputation for lush, tropical Chardonnay, velvety-textured PinotNoir and rich, spicy Syrah, all grown on one contiguous property. In recent years Cambria has concentrated its vineyard and winemaking resources into amplifying different aspects of the Cambria estate. This effort launched an in-depth exploration of the vineyard and varieties on this cool-climate property. The result has elevated the quality of Cambria's core wines, created new site-focused and distinct winemaking styles, and dramatically highlighted the bold flavours of each variety.
