In December 1991 they made a very important purchase of a 120 hectare property in the heart of the upper Douro, Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, which has consolidated their reputation as serious Port producers and enabled them to offer their first single quinta Port in the great vintage of 1992. The Amorim family who success in the Portuguese cork industry has now purchased Burmester. It has brought new investment coupled with allowing Burmester to remain 100% under Portuguese ownership. The high quality of their Ruby and Tawny belies the competitive price at which they are offered, and they have many followers who enjoy their rich berry fruit characters. In addition to Vintage Port, Burmester also have an exciting range of old, sometimes very old, 'Colheitas' or vintage Tawny, which are today gaining recognition and popularity in the U.K (6 x 75 cl)

Warre's TRADITIONAL Late Bottled Vintage Port
Description: Warre's is one of the only Port companies always to have made a late bottled vintage in the original way. Today this tradition continues. Carefully selected from the finest wines of a very good year, this port is aged in oak casks for 4 years before being bottled without fining or filtration. This ensures that, as with Vintage Port, the fruit concentration is retained. Once bottled, Warre's Traditional Late Bottled Vintage Port is left to mature for a further 5 years in Warre's own cellars before being offered for sale. It is this prolonged ageing in its own bottle that gives this particular LBV so much outstanding style and complexity. 1992, 1990 and the vintages that preceded them have continued to make their mark on the trade, being awarded no less than 5 gold medals in 8 years by the International Wine Challenge. A true reflection of the quality and style of Warre's bottle matured LBV. (6 x 75 cl)

W & J Graham's LBV Port
Description: Like Vintage Port, LBV is a wine of a single year but it is not a 'declared' Vintage Port. Whereas Vintage Port spends only two years in casks and then matures in bottle, LBV is aged solely in cask and then bottled at between four and six years old. At the time of bottling it has completed its maturation and is ready for drinking without the need for decanting. Graham's LBV has much of the rich full fruity flavour and 'grip' of Vintage Port, combining this with a softness gained through oak ageing. (180 x 5 cl)

W & J Graham's QUINTA dos MALVEDOS Single Quinta Port
Description: Quinta dos Malvedos is rated among the finest vineyard properties in the Alto Douro. It lies on the north bank of the River Douro and its south-facing vineyards and very consistent climate ensure that in nearly every year the property will produce wines of first-class quality. The whole vineyard has the highest 'A' classification awarded by the controlling authorities. In 'declared' Vintage years the wines of Malvedos form the fundamental part of the blend which makes up Graham's Vintage Ports. In many other years when there is not enough top quality wine for Graham's to declare a Vintage, the wine of Malvedos is nevertheless so fine that it is bottled on its own, unblended, when two years old and left to mature in bottle like other Vintage Ports. Unlike declared Vintages, Malvedos Vintage Port is normally only shipped when ready for drinking by which time it is usually at least ten years old, although it continues to improve for many years more. Graham's have been offering Malvedos Vintage Port since 1951 and recent years to have been singled out for bottling include 1987, 1988 and 1990. Malvedos Vintage Port throws a similarly heavy crust to Graham's Vintage Ports and careful decanting is therefore required prior to serving. As with a declared Vintage, careful decanting is essential prior to serving. (6 x 75 cl)
