Quinta do Infantado 2000 Vintage Port Description: ''We are traditional,'' explains Joao Roseira. ''We ferment our own grapes from very good vineyards in 'lagars' so get better extraction. As a result, we have higher natural alcohols, which gives us a finer, more elegant style of Port, as we don't need to add so much brandy.'' The best wine is undoubtedly the Vintage, Its swirling flavours of deep, dark plums and chocolate give way to a supple, warming rather than searing finish. The finesse on the finish is a key element of the Infantado wines, and is attributable to the fact that the wine brandy component in their blend is only 15%, whereas the average for Port is about 20% (6 x 75 cl) Price: £176.33

This finesse carries through to the 10 Year Old Tawny, which is a classic of the style. Intense and liquoricey and long, it is a wonderful sipping Port.
