Jackson Wine Estates LEGACY Alexander Valley California
Description: Established in 1989 Legacy is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from selected blocks in Alexander Mountain Estate vineyards. Legacy selected five lots of wine from the estate vineyards in the eastern mountains and hills enclosing the southern end of the Alexander Valley. Elevation holds the key to this wine’s combination of boldness and elegance with more than 80% of the grapes used to make this wine grown at elevations of at least 2,000 feet. Most of the Cabernet Sauvignon was chosen from selected blocks planted at 2,400 feet on Alexander Mountain Estate. Higher altitude creates its own climate, different from the vineyards planted on the valley floor. Even on the warmest summer days, the cooling influence of the Pacific Ocean twenty miles away can be felt. Soils, too, are significantly different, on the mountain, the soil is thin, rocky and gravelly, this helps produce fruit that is complex, rich as well as concentrated. To complement the powerful fruit only small, thin-staved French oak barrels are used to age this wine for 16 months. The resulting wine is supple, with flavours of cedar, black currant and dark chocolate. Look also for hints of smoky toastiness and concentrated black cherries. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £336.68

Viu Manent Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Colchagua Valley Chile
Description: TASTING NOTES Deep ruby red in colour, on the nose this wine exhibits lifted notes of blackcurrant, fig and date. In the mouth opulent notes of plum, dark chocolate and espresso bean dominate. A well integrated oak backbone backed by firm yet round tannins leads to a long finish. Oak 100% of the blend was matured for 16 months in French oak barrels. Winemaking Techniques Fruit was hand harvested before being destemmed and crushed to tank. The must was then given a 5 day cold soak at 10-12 º C in order to increase aroma extraction. The must was heated and inoculated with selected yeasts with temperatures peaking between 28 and 30 º C during the fermentation. Two pumpovers were carried out daily during fermentation follwed by a 2 week post fermentation maceration before pressing. A natural malolactic fermentation which started in tank was completed in barrel. The wine was then barrel aged for 16 months before being racked to tank, lightly filtered and bottled. Vineyard San Carlos, located near the town of Cunaco , Colchagua Valley . Sourced from Cabernet Sauvignon blocks with an average age of 50+ years. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £112.52

Hartford Family Winery HARTFORD COURT SEASCAPE VINEYARD Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast California
Description: Hartford Family Winery was founded in 1993 as a result of Don and Jennifer Hartford's appreciation for the wines, the people and the unique vineyards near their Russian River Valley home. Located in the Sonoma County town of Forestville, the winery is about 15 miles from the cool Pacific Coast. The fruit for the Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is composed of exceptional, small block Pinot Noir vineyards located in the Sonoma Coast. Estate vineyards are the primary sources for this cepage, which is comprised of selected blocks from our Ross Road Vineyard , our Seascape and Annapolis Vineyards and a handful of growers within the Russian River Valley. Centuries old winemaking traditions from Burgundy are combined with twenty-first century technology to produce this juicy and delicious Pinot Noir. Hand harvesting in the cool of the morning, followed by meticulous hand sorting is a pre-requisite before de-stemming directly into open-top fermentors. Individual Pinot Noir batches are held at 50 degrees Fahrenheit for five to seven days before the grapes begin to ferment. During this cold soak, and throughout fermentation, the grapes are gently punched down by hand, to aid in the extraction of color and flavor while minimizing the extraction of hard or ‘unripe’ tannins from the seeds or stems. The wine is aged on fine sediment in small French oak barrels for 11 months and is racked once before bottling. Great care from the vineyard to the winery has produced a Pinot Noir showing aromas of rose petals, cherries, orange pekoe tea, lavender and smoke that are followed by flavours of ripe, red cherries, roasted plums, cinnamon, chocolate, anise and allspice. The complex aromas and dense, sweet mouthfeel are supported by centered acidity and fine grain tannins.

Stellenzicht STELLENZICHT Syrah Stellenbosch RSA
Description: Known initially as Rustenberg and later Alphen, this vineyard at one time belonged to the Baimsfather-Cloete family who produced the famous Constantia wines. In 1981 the estate was acquired by Hans-Joachim Schreiber who renamed it Stellenzicht or in its literal translation 'View of Stellen' . Matured in oak this Syrah displays intense ruby rich hues with a distinct, youthful purple tinge and opaque centre. A rich complexity of mocha and dark chocolate aromas combines with the spicy sweetness of ripe plims and toasted oak; while cinnamon and cloves round off the sweetish fruit aromas. Full-bodied yet succulent with firm, soft tannins resulting in a perfectly balanced acidity this is a wine to enjoy through to the enjoyable finish. Situated midway between the Helderberg Mountain and False Bay, lies an exceptional tract of land that benefits from a terroir eminently suited to the cultivation of the highest quality wine grapes. This jewel in the crown of the magnificent Stellenbosh wine-growing area is known as the Golden Triangle. At its core lies Stellenzicht where this wonderful wine gets its grapes. The single vineyard, planted in 1989, is situated on the slopes facing west and north-west in soils originating from decomposed granite, at an altitude of 120 m above sea-level. This vineyard block is affectionately known as 'Plum Pudding Hill' as it consistently produces fruit of high quality and ripeness. The grapes were harvested by hand and after destalking and crushing, the mash was fermented in two separate batches in stainless steel tanks at 28°C, with differing selected pure yeast cultures . The juice was removed from the skins after five days. Once malolactic fermentation was completed the wine was left to mature in a combination of French , American and Hungarian oak for a period of 19 months before bottling. (6 x 75 cl) Price: £142.92

Montana TERRACES ESTATE Pinot Noir Marlborough
Description: This is the first release of this hand-crafted wine which will be made only in the finest vintages, it is sourced from Montana's finest Marlborough vineyards, Booker Block Terraces and Fairhall Estate. This flagship Pinot Noir shows complexity and concentration of flavours with sweet fruit and silky tannins. The growing season started with fine, settled weather over the flowering and fruit set period. The summer was wetter than normal, but this was followed by an ideal, long, dry autumn. Cool nights over the autumn period promoted excellent varietal intensity, ripe flavours and balanced acidity levels. This wine uses only French barriques, all were fine grained and three year seasoned oak, sourced from a number of coopers of which 40% of the oak was new, the balance one and two-years old. For the first two months the barrels were lees stirred, which helped to develop the wine's structure. The wine then remained in oak for 12 months, prior to the components being racked out and blended. This Pinot Noir is a deep garnet red colour with aromas of dark berry fruit, savoury spice and hints of chocolate and coffee. The palate shows rich, dark plum and berry fruit coupled with integrated, complex savoury oak. There is great concentration of flavour, with silky tannins giving a velvety mouth feel.
