The Bourgogne Chardonnay is a blend of 50% barrel fermented Ladoix, with 30% coming from the grower in Puligny who supplies the grapes for the award winning Champ Gain. The fruit from Ladoix gives a richness to the wine, while that from Puligny gives a lovely minerality. The wine has an attractive clear yellow in colour with crystalline reflections, and has a very refined nose with notes of white flowers. It is round and delicate in the mouth, with a polished acidity which lends freshness and purity. Jean-Claude Boisset has undergone a radical transformation since 2002. Gregory Patriat, head winemaker, spends a great deal of his time in the vineyards, and pays the growers by the hectare, rather than by the tonnage, in order to ensure low yields. Each appellation has its distinctive character, yet there is also a house style: elegant and balanced, the oak underpinning the pristine and supple fruit. (12 x 75 cl)

Jean-Claude Boisset Hautes Cotes de Nuits Blanc AC
Description: The wine has an attractive nose, with perfumes of grapefruit and the biscuity toastiness characteristic of oak-aged Chardonnay balanced by a fresh acidity. Parcel-based selection and vineyard management was vital in this vintage. The wine was barrel-fermented using natural yeasts and a very small percentage of new oak. The winemaker eschews batonnage as he doesn’t like the fatness it lends to wines, preferring instead to allow the inherent elegance of his wines to shine through unhindered. Jean-Claude Boisset St Aubin 1er Cru Sur Gamay Unoaked Chardonnay Description: With its prestigious Premiers Crus, Saint-Aubin in the Côte de Beaune holds a place among the great wines. No fewer than 65ha of its vineyards are rated as Premier Cru. The vines are mainly planted on the right side of the wide coomb that snakes its way up towards La Rochepot. The appellation area is spread over two different hill ranges: one is the Montagne de Savoie, which delimits the end of the Côte d'Or, and the other is the Montagne du Ban, which is perpendicular to it. It is on the second of these hills that 'Sur Gamay' sits. Patriat feels that wines from this lieu-dit are very close in quality to a Puligny or a Chassagne. Parcel-based selection and vineyard management was used. The vineyard soil was worked in order to encourage the microbacterial activity required for the terroir to express itself. The yield is 40 hl/ha. The grapes were hand picked at optimum maturity and put into small perforated boxes. Patriat has two sorting tables, with 10 people per table, looking out for any grapes that aren't fit to go into the fermenting vat. The wine was barrel fermented using natural yeasts . Patriat eschews battonage as he doesn't like the fatness it lends to wines, preferring instead to allow the inherent elegance and minerality of the wine to shine through unhindered. The malolactic fermentation took place in barrel. The wine was matured for 15 months and underwent a very light filtration before bottling. (6 x 75 cl) Price: £146.93

De Loach Chardonnay Russian River Valley California
Description: Ambrosial scents greet you from the glass; ripe fruit flavours of Bartlett pear, Macintosh apple and Meyer lemon offer substantial counterpoints to beautifully suggestive French oak components of cinnamon, nutmeg, and hazelnut. This mouthwatering wine shows a delightful complexity, while the rich, creamy mid-palate is framed by a well-balanced acid tannin structure leading to a brilliant clean finish that leaves you wanting more. Russian River Valley Chardonnay is a blend of several premium vineyards located within three miles of the winery in the heart of the Russian River Valley. Carefully tended vines yield fruit of exemplary quality and this white wine it is a pure expression of Russian River Valley terroir. The juice was fermented in a combination of stainless steel tanks and French oak barrels. The barrel fermented portion of wine was then aged for 8 months in French oak to produce an intricately layered wine with delicate nuances of fruit and oak. The Russian River Valley has come to be known as 'America's Burgundy,' and DeLoach is proud to have been an important factor in this distinction. Purchased by Boisset in 2003 and the appointment of new winemaker Greg La Follette marked the start of their return to form for DeLoach. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £150.32
