Cave de Cairanne LA PAS DE LA BEAUME Cotes du Rhone Villages
Description: The Cave de Cairanne is a small growers co-operative based around the ancient town of Cairanne itself, in the southern Rhone. The Cairanne cellar was created in 1929 by vintners united to ensure the joint vinification of their harvest and the defence of their common interests. Since 1929 three generations have inherited the vines and the Cairanne cellar has continued to prosper, today it has 260 members. Out of the 16 villages allowed to use their own name for the production of Cote du Rhone Village, Cairanne wines are known to be amongst the most prestigious. Sourced from vineyards located in the village of Cairanne in the département of Vaucluse, on the left bank of the River Rhône. The vines are planted on clay and limestone hillsides that are covered with small pebbles and yield around 52hl/ha, except for the Carignan, which is from old vines and yields considerably less quantity, but higher quality fruit. These slopes are gentle and well exposed to the sun. 90% of the destemmed grapes are vinified using the traditional method of 5 to 7 days maceration at a high temperature to maximize texture and stability. 10% is vinified by carbonic maceration in order to extract a maximum of fruit. There is no oak used in vinification and the wine is bottled young for early consumption. A blend of 76% Grenache, 8% Syrah, 8% Carignan and 8% Cinsault this wine has engaging aromas of red fruit, garrigue and spices. Medium bodied and supple with a generous amount of succulently textured ripe forest fruit, fine grained, soft structure and a clean, moreish finish. Available in half bottles. (12 x 37.5 cl)
