Vineyard/Territory From the oldest vineyards at the PianoAlto estate, in Crena. Wine Production The wine is aged in 1500 litre Piedmontese barrels, custom-coopered using new wood. The wine is bottled directly from the barrels, without filtration. The PianoAlto estate surrounds its old farmhouse on the Crena ridge, with a lovely view of the village of Agliano d'Asti. The oldest vineyard produces the grapes used for PianoAlto, a Barberad'AstiSuperiore that bears the designation NIZZA, the best-suited sub-zone for the production of this fine red wine. Wine Production Wine making is characterized by delicate maceration, immediately followed by fining in new barriques for about 18 months. This name was not chosen by chance. The dedication to the well-known violin is due to the amusing, but tried and tested theory that particular sounds accompany particular tastes during concerts in the wine cellar.Stradivario is a Barberad'AstiSuperiore made from grapes harvested at Cocconato, on the calcareous hills of the high Asti region. Deeply rooted in this area for four generations,the BAVA family has kept the oldest vineyard for the production of these red grapes. They give a pure, long-lived Barbera, made in accordance with the international rules that reward strength and depth, without denying the territory identity. The grapes are harvested very ripe, and the yield is kept low in the vineyard. The wine making is characterized by a moderate contact with the air and delicate macerations, immediately followed by fining in new barriques. The outcome is a well-definite wine, extraordinarily rigorous, which recurs and keeps for years. Description: This old winery in Agliano Terme is situated in Vianoce, an ancient-hamlet including a peasant house and a church. It was built during the first half of the 19th century by the Visconti Barons of Ornavasso, then, at the beginning of the 1920,s it was bought by the brothers Secondo and Serafino Trinchero while today it belongs to Renato and Ezio. Most of the vines are over fifty years with resultant smaller yields giving structure and quality to the wines. On a historical note in 1952 the first bottles of Barberad'Asti were produced and Trinchero was given position number one in the wine-producer registry of Asti, while today the vineyards are organically farmed. Barbera is from 20 year-old vines with the grapes fermented in cement vats and matured in old wooden barrels for another twelve months before bottling.
