Baron Philippe de Rothschild MOUTON CADET Reserve Medoc
Description: This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon , Merlot and Cabernet Franc is a deep garnet red coloured wine. Both dense and elegant, the nose opens with ripe fruit, especially blackcurrant and strawberry. A wine of great class and character, it has a massive attack on the palate that is sustained by well-rounded remarkably textured tannins. Great overall harmony between the forward fruit and high quality structure give way to fine tannic length and an elegant finish. Since 1933 Baron Philippe de Rothschild, located at Pauillac in the Medoc, has been motivated by a constant ambition: to make the world's finest wines, each in its own category, whether the chateaux wines for which it is responsible – the renowned Chateau Mouton Rothschild, a First Growth, and its distinguished lieutenants, Chateau Clerc Milon and Chateau d'Armailhac – or branded wines, like the famous Mouton Cadet or the Mouton Cadet Reserve range . Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA has also exported its know-how beyond Bordeaux: to the Pays d'Oc, with a range of varietal wines and, more recently, Domaine de Baron'arques; to California, with Opus One; and to Chile, with Almaviva. One of the key factors behind the company's undisputed success is the art of blending, which it practises with exceptional skill and this is reflected in the Mouton Cadet Reserve range. (6 x 75 cl)

Baron Philippe de Rothschild ESCUDO ROJO Maipo Valley Chile
Description: This wine, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Cabernet Franc and Syrah, has an attractive, deep ruby red colour. The nose opens on rich spice, toast and black cherry aromas, to which a touch of eucalyptus brings subtlety and aromatic refinement. Mondavi/Rothschild OPUS ONE Napa Valley California
Description: A great deal of care and expertise is required to produce this wine which is a collaboration between Robert Mondavi and the Chateau Mouton Rothschild families. The brainchild of two leading lights of the wine world, Robert Mondavi and Philippe de Rothschild, Opus One is a Napa Valley based joint venture with a commitment to quality and perfection. Its magnificent location, opulent winery and state-of-the-art technology is grape nirvana. The grapes are hand sorted and it is only gravity that is used to move the berries from the destemmer into the stainless steel fermenting tank. As Opus One only makes 1 wine each tank is used only once during harvest so that fermentation and maceration do not need to be rushed. The tank draws out a myriad of rich flavours and colours from the grape skin, seed and pulp. The tanks are then raised so the free-run wine can flow into new French Oak Barrels, while the residue that provides the backbone to this wine is also barrel aged. Once ready Fining takes place that clarifies and polishes the wine. The 1997 vintage is a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot, 4% Malbec and 1% Petit Verdot. During the growing season abundent sunlight in the previous vintage produced high fertility in the vine buds and a large crop was thinned to the lowest per acre yield in a decade. As a result of this the harvest was very compact lasting just 11 days and produced wines of vigor with finesse. A complex, vigorous, fresh tasting wine showing currant, anise, black cherry, mineral, leather and sage flavors with delicate liquorice flavours and scents. Sweet and powerful, this is an easy drinking wine with subtle tannins and a marvellous finish. (6 x 75 cl)

Chateau d'Aussieres AUSSIERES Rouge Vin de Pays de Languedoc
Description: Owner of Chateau Lafite Rothschild for five generations, the Rothschild family has been based in this Bordeaux vineyard since 1868. High values and respect of traditional methods make them passionate about harmony and excellence in the wines they produce. Their wines are a witness to that passion year after year and their skills have patiently enriched the wines through the generations, with world-renowned success. Domain Baron de Rothschild skills have served other exceptional Bordeaux wines and vineyards, which share the same values of humility and high standards. Over the years, Domain Baron de Rothschild has expanded its offerings through the acquisition of Chateau Duhart-Milon, 4th growth wine from Pauillac, of Chateau Rieussec, 1er growth Sauternes wines, of Chateau l'Evangile in Pomerol, of Chateau Paradis Casseuil in Entre-Deux-Mers and of Chateau Peyre-Lebade, Bordeaux wines in Haut Medoc. Recently, Domain Baron de Rothschild, in 1999, purchased Chateau d'Aussieres. Aussieres Red is a marriage of Languedoc and Bordeaux varietals, brought together in varied proportions depending on the vintage. The density and elegance of the Cabernets and Merlot are associated with the strength of the Syrah and, sometimes depending on vintage, the character of the Mourvedre. This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah and Mourvedre has produced a lovely intense dark red coloured wine. Showing a very open, expressive nose with a complexity of aromas, from each grape variety, melds together with notes of cedar wood, cherries and spices. Full and supple on the front palate, with lots of fresh fruit flavours this wine is backed up with fine, ripe tannins giving way to a lengthy finish that shows the characteristic elegance of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. (12 x 75 cl)

Bodega Caro CARO Mendoza Argentina
Description: Owner of Chateau Lafite Rothschild for five generations, the Rothschild family has been based in this Bordeaux vineyard since 1868. High values and the respect of traditional methods make them passionate about harmony and excellence. Their wines bear witness to that passion year after year and their skills have patiently enriched the wines through the generations, with world-renowned success. Over the years, Domain Baron de Rothschild has expanded its offerings through the acquisition of several french Chateau's as well as ventures in Portugal. However, in 1998 the Caro Project, based in Mendoza, Argentina was started. The idea was raised about forming a partnership between Domaines Barons de Rothschild and the Catena family. Initial enthusiasm was rapidly transformed into a project to produce a single wine combining French and Argentinean cultures. Caro has a strong Argentinian identity, heralded by Malbec, while obtaining further elegance and complexity through blending with Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged 14 months, including 60% in new barrels this blend is a rich and refined wine with a harmonious balance between the Argentinian and Bordeaux styles. (12 x 75 cl)

Chateau Rieussec CARMES DE RIEUSSEC Sauternes AC
Description: The second wine of Chateau Rieussec Carmes de Rieussec is selected according to the same standards as the first wine. Its constant feature is centred on a fine aromatic structure dominated by citrus aromas. The name, Carmes de Rieussec, relates to the monks of the Carmes de Langon, who were owners of the Rieussec estate in the 18th century. A blend of Semillon 85%, Sauvignon Blanc 10% and a little Muscadelle 5% this wine has spent 18 months in barrel. This is an intense golden yellow coloured wine that is showing preserved fruit on the nose, with hints of apricot. The nose develops on the palate as the range of flavours deliver a harmonious well-rounded first impression. In the 18th century, the Rieussec estate belonged to the Carmes de Langon monks. The confiscation of the estate during the revolution led to its public sale around 1790 as an 'object of national heritage' to Mr. Marheilhac, the period’s owner of Château La Louvière at Leognan. For the 1855 classification, M. Mayne was the owner of the estate. The quality of the Rieussec soil earned its ranking as a first growth Sauternes and Barsac. After that date, Rieussec’s history involves many change of owners. Acquired by Domaines Barons de Rothschild in 1984 the estate then included 110 hectares of which 68 hectares were vineyards. To enhance Chateau Rieussec’s potential, stern measures were implemented, including meticulous sorting of seeds and fermenting in barrels, which provides a superior selection for blending fine wines as well as a new chai being built to extend ageing in barrels. Available in 37.5 cl Half Bottles. (24 x 37.5 cl)
