On the 10th September 1756, The Real Companhia Velha was founded by Royal Charter of The King D. Jose I, under the auspices of His Prime Minister, Sebastiao Jose de Carvalho e Mello, Count de Oeiras and Marquis de Pombal. Formed by the most important farmers of the Upper Douro and the Good Men of the City of Oporto, the Company was entrusted with the task of 'sustaining the cultivation of vines, conserving the production of them in their natural pureness, in benefit of Agriculture, Trade and Public Health.' In 2006 Real Companhia Velha celebrated 250 years of existence and uninterrupted activity on behalf of the Porto Wine trade. Behind, there is a fabulous history and a glorious past. Description: The Royal Tokaji Wine Company was established in 1989 and the 1st vintage was produced in 1990. Over 50% of the company's vineyards are classified as 1st or 2nd Growths and production is limited to wines with 4 puttonyos and above. It pioneered the production of single vineyard wines and its major role in Tokaji`s renaissance is now widely recognised. The Royal Tokaji Wine Co Essencia 1993 vintage is a deep burnished gold colour, remarkably full bodied and luxuriously sweet showing excellent balance and structure. Tempting kumquat, orange and caramel are evident with generous hints of white chocolate and toasted bread. Fresh and long the wine is drinking very nicely now and should cellar well until 2012. Available in 50 cl bottles but Availability is limited.
